ST.O First: New Bike!

2012 Tiger 800 ABS  3400 miles.

I rode it home about 150 miles.  This is a replacement for my Ducati Multistrada so the following are my impressions.

The Tiger has a much broader useful power band.  The bike pulls well from 2500 rpm right up to redline.  The Multistrada doesn't start pulling well until you get 3500 rpm.  And the Tiger rev limiter is at ~9800 while the Multi hits the limiter at around 8200.

In the upper revs, the Multi does pull harder in the high rpms however.  The suspensions are fairly equivalent.  Same/same for wind protection.  A major bonus the Tiger:  It came with a BMW style power port.  (And this bike had led driving lights already installed) :bigsmile:

Nice Tiger.  I sure like mine.  You're right that the top-end is not a huge rush, but the power is still nice and strong.  I think you will appreciate how it is more manageable at lower RPM's versus the Ducati. 

Good luck with it.  Tiger800.co.uk has a lot of bike specific info and Hermy's is a great dealer for buying accessories.

Over the weekend I just bought a 2007 VFR ABS in Candy Dark Red with 6,500 miles.  No photo hosting abilities but I uploaded a photo from my cell phone over at VFRD.

That Tiger does look nice.  We had a pair show up on a fairly intense 143 mile dual sport ride.  They did well.

I love how those Tiger 800's look but they are too tall for my midget legs to reach the ground even tippy toed.

Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

It was a trade in at the dealership.  They had done the service on it.  One never really knows the story, but apparently he went to a big BMW.  I don't really understand that mentality.  Heck, this is the first bike I've ever bought from a dealership!

I completely agree.  I just love the bike.  I'm hoping to by keeping the commuter miles down on the remotored bike, I won't be doing this process again.

What year is the Multi you are putting back together, and is it the S (or R?)model with the Ohlins bits? Buddy had one of those and I really enjoyed it. Good luck with the engine replacement.
