I've had a pretty crappy year so far. But days like this are like shining, jeweled moments in the oppressive gloom.

Took my 17-year-old son for a chilly scoot up to Huntsville, UT, wherein lies the world-class (IMO) Huntsville Barbeque Company. Next door is the famous Shooting Star Saloon, lauded in song and story for its Star Burgers and a decapitated St. Bernard head on the wall. But since it's 21-and-older only, we opted for BBQ.

Generally I try to ride the good roads, but though the snowfall this year has been disturbingly light, the good roads we tried were all closed. Tried East Canyon, no dice. Alternative through Immigration Canyon to SLC, then the boringslab up to Ogden, then up I-84 to Mountain Green, where we finally got to ride a nice road, SR167 over the mountain to Snowbasin Resort and down into Huntsville.

I don't have warm armored gear in my oldest son's size, so I gave him my ski parka to wear over his armored mesh stuff.

If you're in the area or if you aren't, the BBQ here is truly stellar. The ribs are amazing, the brisket is like frickin' smoke candy, and the slaws/sides are awesome. As good or better than anything I had on my BBQ tour of Austin a couple of years ago.

We asked some locals if Monte Cristo would be open and they assured us (correctly) that it wouldn't be... it's a very nice road over some high-country aspens and great views, etc. But we rode the 17 miles up to the gate and turned around anyway. Gotta at least pretend we're on a motorcycle ride and not just going out for BBQ, right?   ;D

Nice. We had Q Sunday. I didn't get the ride in but swapped it for having all the kids and grandkids over for grandkid #3's first bday.

Everyone reported that the home made version was good.

Forgot to take a pic of the pork tenderloin. It was gone in a snap. I'm working my way through the last slab or ribs.
