A few of us left work and headed to Single Brother's Bar where I enjoyed a Bulleit Frontier Whiskey (10 year) followed by an Eagle Rare 10 year old.  Both neat with a side of water.  It never ceases to amaze me how more vanilla tasting the Eagle Rare becomes the more you let it open up.  (so good).

We left and went across the street to Finnegans Wake for some food.  There I had a Midleton Very Rare (neat) followed by a  Founders Centennial IPA.  I've never had this wonderful IPA before.  I've been missing something good.  :in love:

We started with a melange...that's right, I said melange...of fruited beers - Shiner Ruby Red Bird (grapefruit), Leinenkugel Summer Shandy (lemonade), and Maui Brewing Co. Mana Wheat (pineapple). But now we're onto the American Honey. We're sleeping in tomorrow.

3 greatlakes rye of the tiger. 1 Saugatuck bonfire brown. both really tasty, really enjoyed the brown. tomorrow is party night! Will try some bonfire browns around the actual bonfire.  :beerchug:

A good night- and a slightly slower morning.  My two buddies brought over their families and TONS of fireworks.  We kind of had a contest with the neighbors, which was fun.  For the record, they kicked our asses.   :lol:  I don't know how many fireworks they had, but it we had a good amount and it was WAY more than us, and boy was it fun to watch!   :bigok: 


For those of you that like Founder's IPA (which is one of my favorites for sure- possibly #1) you REALLY need to check out Founder's Red's Rye.  I know they bottle it, but it might not be as widely distributed as Centennial IPA.  It is basically a nice rye IPA.  There was a growler of that involved in last night's festivities as well, and it could be my favorite beer of all.   :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I love reds rye pa, has been a favorite for a few years. I stopped buying it when they switched it from $8.99 a six pack, to $13.99 a four pack. It finally dropped to $11.99 a four. As much as i love it, im not going to support their price gouging

Interesting.  I think American beer (modern microbrews) are now setting the standard.  Compared to beers in the 70's?  I have no doubt it was superior. 

BTW- once more, it was great to meet you.  That's my favorite part of the BBQ- new people.

Me?  Jim Beam and Coke.  June, July, and August rule for a teacher.  I'm currently redoing parts of my baot and reding the trailer in preoparation for our vacation at a cottage next week.  I'll even post pics in a bit for thoise who care.   :bigok:

The black IPA out of the fermenter was a hit at the party last night.  Just bottled a citrus ginger blond that'll be ready in two weeks.

I've got a bunch of disparate leftover ingredients from the two recipes, so I might just pour all that crap into the fermenter and make a trashcan ale.  How bad could it be?  :shrug:

Tonight, anything we want.

On our usual walk around the neighborhood this morning we met the new renters two doors up.  Cute young girl had accidentally backed her car over a plastic recycling bin left by the trash men.  Stuck tight underneath.  I fetched my sawz-all and dispatched it.  She was so appreciative that she....  :naughty:  

Nah.

But in truth, it turned out that she & her roomies are bartenders/waitrons at one of our favorite brewpubs in town.  Free beer!

Hoping so- I had to add a lot more water to the fermenter than I usually do- lost a ton on the boil for some reason.

Might just toss some simple syrup into the fermenter in a few days.

Hey, trashcan brown got bottled last Friday and should be ready next weekend.  Got no idea if it'll be any good.  Swing by when it's ready and we'll find out.

Two pumpkins in the backyard just went all the way orange.  Gonna bake them in brown sugar and throw 'em in a dubbel mash next.
