Where I grew up (Great Plains) anything less that 20 mph was reported as a calm day. I was trying to come home from Boston (Cambridge) from a business trip and got held over because the airport was shut down due to the 50-60 mph gusts. The first thing I thought was, "Wimps!"

With us last night it was strong-straight winds (think about 40 mph or more sustained), a chance of hail that never hit us, and some light rain... say about 4" in 45 minutes. I was standing in the breezeway and watching things blow down the street (branches, litter someone somewhere hadn't picked up, small children, and all that usual stuff). The kids had an ef0 or ef1 last night close to them and set tight at home. You can tell who grew up in "Tornado Alley"; when the tornado sirens go off, they step out into the yard and start looking up to see just where it is.
Meh. Power stayed on so the AC worked. We were cool.
