I think it is cool as hell - but I wonder about how well it really works.

Cool as hell. No question.

That said, it would be more stable on the ground as a two wheels in front kind of three wheeler. It could still be a leaner if it had a locking mechanism like the Piaggio system.
It should also fold up into a briefcase and get 6256 miles on a gallon of dirty water. It would also be nice if it could transform into a badass combat robot if the situation required it, but that could be optional I guess.

Can you imagine the accidents that thing would get into? We have enough issues with people driving and on their cellph ones noe ad in a verticle element into what they have to pay attention to. Would the blue hairs and handicapped people have a special colored copter so they are easily noticed and avoided? How would you put the 32inch spinners and lower your ride?

Just some random thought off the top of my head.

I wouldn't mind having one. Its the other people that are an issue.

It's an auto-gyro, so not 'technically' a "copter", but still cool; just in a slightly different way.
So I'd call it... cool as... H E double-toothpicks.

gyro's are cool, and relatively safe to operate. I can see a lot of uses for them in rural areas.

There's a reason the ultralight fad died back in the 80's. Sodapop had it right. I shudder to think about someone with more money than sense having one of those.

I think there was a build yourself models in a magazine las year, gone to get a bottle and head out to the garage and build one of them flyin machines

Ok all kidding aside, looks like a lot of fun but sure would hate to be up in the air with a bunch of nutjobs in a hurry to get to the office, traffic on the ground is bad enough

If it's over 254 pounds (guaranteed), subtracting safety equip (parachute), one would need a sport pilot or private pilot license.

Now, if it's under 254 pounds (FAR part 103 Ultralight class), head out to the garage and whip something up!!!! IMO, less restrictive than owning a canoe (which needs a state license number and registration).

The concept of the flying car is nearly as old as aviation itself.

The trouble is, after all the dust settles, you have a vehicle that does neither task (flying or driving) very well. It also usually lugs around significant parts not necessary to it's current operating mode while it does either.

If this wasn't so, this concept would have ....er .... taken-off ... some time ago.

Exactly. And once you become airborne, we have limitations. Thank God.

So now, we have to deal with the drone issue.

But isn't that because the 'vehicles' aren't licensed & registered for the road? This one would be... so what would they ticket you for?

Kill-joy-fact; auto-gyros take-off and land in very short distances. Could be done from a parking lot, esp if any of the power is still routed to the rear wheel.

SD codified laws:
50-13-5. Landing without consent as misdemeanor--Exception. The landing of an aircraft on the lands or waters of another, without consent, is a Class 2 misdemeanor, except in the case of a forced landing.

It may be "against the law" to land without consent, but then have you ever seen a LEO try and chase down a helicopter to write a ticket?? Might even be able to outrun the motorola Maybe

besides your up above the air, take a min and look to see if there is a LEO before landing.
