wireless access point
« on: July 14, 2014, 02:15:58 PM »
I have a wired connection into the barn, but it appears my belkin WAP died with the power outages last week.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good wireless access point?  It just needs to allow wireless access while out in the barn.  It doesn't even need a huge range.  Thanks!

Get a proper UPS for the WAP so the power outage doesn't fry the box. I use UPSs on all my computer equipment in the house and haven't had a hardware failure in 12 years.

With that, what's wrong with getting the same model Belkin? Otherwise there's none I have any particular favorite over the other if you're not doing any hacking or anything.

I have an old wireless router in the closet collecting dust. I'll try to remember to pull it tonight. Don't think I'm coming to Michigan for a few weeks, so I'd have to send it to you. PM me if you don't hear from me.

On the consumer side I've had the best luck with NETGEAR.

My most resent was an ASUS wireless AP (802.11ac).

Been happy with it.
