Upcoming Ride
« on: June 11, 2014, 09:09:35 PM »
Not sure if this is kosher, but here's the planned route for next week's ride.

Everything says it'll be on the cool side and we'll encounter a tiny bit of rain :)

Should be fun :D

Edit: Oh, we have the entire week off and it's a 7 day ride so we should get back, earliest Friday. Latest Sunday.

Yea. I tried to be reasonably conservative over the times we stop in order to be able to enjoy a few hours of relaxing before hitting the sack(s) which should also give us time in a few places to do a little exploring. Glacier NP mainly.

Holy Jesus Carl, that's a hell of a second ride for her.
I know it's a piece of cake for you, but what about Jeanne?

Anywho, I'm looking forward to your report.

I know, I know. If you note though, it's straight up and back. So we can turn around at any point and hoof it back if it gets too much for her. It's also supposed to be a tad rainy up and back and lows in the mid 30's in Jasper so if it gets too cold, we can also head back by just turning around. It's better than a loop where we may have less options for returning.

And of course pics. I'm charging up the batteries now plus picked up a new charger for the iPhone (I had a 3GS before, different plug).

I have a friend coming over to watch Slash and the house. A page and a half of notes on how to do stuff.

Plus I'm refinancing the house to get Rita off the note/title. Good thing I'm off for two weeks :)

Just finished getting the bike packed. I followed my checklist to make sure I had what I needed. Since I'm leaving one saddlebag for Jeanne, I needed to pare things down a touch more so the linked list isn't everything I'm taking. But it does remind me of the stuff I need to remember.

http://schelin.org/planning/preride/checklist.html

I did get both sleeping bags into the trunk. I did have to use a tie down though :D Unlatching it causes it to pop like one of those biscuit commercials :)

I have a few more hours to get a couple of more things plus pay a bill. Then clean the house and set up the lights. Then dinner. Then the guys are coming over to play some guitar.

Alarm set for 5 am.

Pre-ride jitters of course. Especially with a passenger.

Should be fun :D

And we're up.

Note, 3, 5, 6, 9, the moon, and 10 are the overnight spots. We'll work on keeping a schedule but if we're not in Jasper by Wednesday night latest, we'll turn around.

3: Grand Tetons - Saturday Night
5: Lewis and Clark
6: Glacier
9: Jasper
The Moon: near Lewis and Clark
10: Medicine Wheel

Then home Friday late.

Her daughter is concerned about Skin Walkers :)

Man, what a cold and windy day. Wind was blowing hard all through Wyoming and up 287. We're in Dubois right now just an hour or so from camping.

Temps have been in the mid 50's and down to the mid-40's when we were covered by clouds. We caught a touch of a shower a couple of times but no real rain just yet. The next 50 miles to Moran Junction will be in the mountains so it'll be chilly but hopefully the wind has ended.

Jeanne's still good (I keep checking :) ). I think that without the wind, the ride would be better. Still there's been awesome scenery and a real dearth of cruisers. Lots of adventure bikes though :)

Well damn. Coming over the pass we ran into a snow flurry. Lasted until we were down on the other side. After discussion, we'll turn south to Jackson Hole and back into Colorado.

The fun thing. When I suggested some side stepping back home, Jeanne asked if we could just wander and camp in Colorado :)

More info as the days progress.

Zipped from Logan through Salt Lake and ended up in Nephi. We were heading for a park until we saw the sign. 150 miles. So we snagged a room at the Safari Motel and took a walk around town. Pretty dead in general. The Dollar Store was the only going concern. Snagged a soda and headed back.

I checked the rear tire and have almost no chicken strips. I think it was during the run to Logan from Bear Lake. Part is that I can't shift in the seat due to a passenger. Not good with this gear and Jeanne.

Yea, the ex made a snarky comment, then my aunt made a snarkier one, the. The ex told my aunt to fuck off, then her daughter stepped in with comments. I had to make a couple of corrections on the post then post personal messages to both. Ex to not take things personally, aunt to tone down the snark until after the divorce is final.

And a grand time was had by all.

Ah, Facebook.  Well, WE love the photos!
Hockey season starts April 18!  Riding season starts whenever I can get a babysitter.  Any offers?

Yea, my aunt said she didn't want to cause trouble and I should unfriend her to keep me from getting in trouble.

Jeeze

I said I would unfriend ex's and ex's family before relatives (well, before her anyway :) ) and asked that she be a little less "I'm glad you found someone better" in her responses :)

The fun part is her daughter piping up about how mom had 2 bikes (5 actually and 2 scooters), took classes (1 BRC class), and went on many rides with me together and on bikes (well, she didn't much like any of the rides and only liked the Ninja 250 because of the gas mileage :) ). And that my aunt doesn't know how things were.

For me the problem is not correcting her misconceptions about her mom. But I ignored Ex's initial snark, I can delay and not try to correct.

More pics of The Black Canyon shortly. Tomorrw we're going through Glenwood Springs then Mt Evans before returning home.

One of the painted walls. The white is magma forced into the surrounding rock.

I'm actually pretty surprised at just how good these panoramic shots look. At 1:1 ratio, they spread from the left most 22" monitor across all four to the right most 22" monitor with just a tiny gap (depending on the width of the shot).

I'm uploading pics now and will post up a few links in a bit.
