Well I am all packed.  Took a shake down ride yesterday with all the gear. New front tire and front brake pads. All good.

 The plan is :

Tuesday: Ride to Staunton Va . Meet my buddy (old next door neighbor during the divorce days who currently lives in NC)? and set up camp outside of Staunton (half way point for both of us).

Wednesday: 250 mile loop: 250 n  To back mountain rd south.  66-55-219-33 back to Staunton for about 250 miles. Then camp Wednesday night again.

Thursday: Leave Staunton, say goodbye to my buddy.  Drive all day in the twisty goodness that is WV and end up in Moorefield.  My other buddy, El Diablo, will be trailering his Uly to Moorefield WV, to meet up for the ride to Marietta OH Friday.

Friday: Ride to Marietta. Via historic 50 with some side rides thrown in for pulse check.

Saturday: Ride the 300+ mile loop (that does include 255 sorry to say)

Sunday: pack up ride to Moorefield>Trailer the bikes back to Jersey.

The photographer claims it was Stanleysville Rd, between Marietta and Caldwell.  I've ridden it, that's not it.  I think it's Dalzell Rd which I've ridden as well.

I follow MSTA on Twitter.  Got notification that the MailPouch Flyby is this weekend and is based out of the Holiday Inn in Marietta.  Seems the hotel is sold out and much of the spill over is going to the Microtel and some to the Hampton.

If you don't have a room, you might be spending some $$'s at the Hampton.

That aside, should make for an interesting weekend. Is it Thurs @ 3pm yet?

Three days till launch and i discover the rear case mounting plate is cracked. Figured out how to fix it so it is all good now.

Trying to plot my routes for the weekend. Anyone have good info on the Hocking Hills area (west of Athens, between 33 and 50), specifically whether the following roads are worth doing:

278, 328, 374, 664, 678, 180

I have Saturday loop laid out that heads west and zig-zags north/south on those roads.

I am going to explore the Hocking Hills area which will likely be less interesting than the route home on Sunday (the Usual Suspects by the river we rode in May). BUT, I can ride southeast OH any time and the Hocking Hills are just a little too far west for a day ride, so I think will spend the day re-acquainting myself with them. It's been several years since I've ridden those roads. I just hope there isn't too much tourist traffic by the parks...

800 is closed a few miles north of 7.
255 is a wonderfully twisty road that is now covered in gravel from truck traffic.  Thanks fracking.
536 is tight and technical.  Heading south, there is a 15mph decreasing radius right hander that has claimed many motorcycles over the years.  Be careful.

T'is a shame. 255 is was a great one.

I plan on riding 255 anyway to see if it has cleaned up any since ODOT re-graveled the shoulders. 536 has had periods of high gravel. And then 536 and 556 got these wide, rectangular patches (covered width of road) of slippery tar a couple years back. Beware if they are baking in the sun, but they have been OK this season. Still, there are so many great roads north of Marietta up to I-70 that you will have no problems killing off chicken strips.

That said, if you fancy a trip across the river to WV, consider riding WV89 from Proctor up to WV250. It is 23(?) miles of twisty, well-paved road with only bits of gravel at truck entrances to drilling sites. Recommended if you like sort of thing (not a knee dragging road).

Another route to consider in WV is to head east to Harrisville, and then ride WV16 south to jct I-79, turn around, and ride it back north.  That's 60 miles (each way) of unrelenting twisties. You will hit some local traffic here and there, but usually it's not too bad. Or pick a different way north/back. I plan on doing WV16 (down and back) on my way to Marietta on Friday (or save it for Sunday depending on weather).

Here is a good loop that starts and ends in Marietta for those of you looking for lots of twisties:

Marietta>26E>800N>78E>7N(just for 1/2 mile)>556W>145N>148W>800S>145S>821S>Marietta

Cross the river at New Martinsville. Head north on 7 to Hannibal and take 536 up to 78. You could make a left on 78 and catch 800 in Woodsfield, but for more twisty fun, make a right on 78 back down to the river. Head north on 7 a little more. Take 556 to Bealsville, then continue on 145 west to jct 800 in Malaga.

Thanks for all these tips.  IIRC, 536 was seeded with fine gravel from an oil & chip in 2011, while 255 was sweet & smooth.  While no ride ever works out perfect - I'm pretty sure that's a corollary to Murphy's Law - this should be a memorable one. 

I think I'm going to head over to the caves - it's scenic and twisty - I don't recall the traffic being that heavy.
