I was getting our water today and it got me to thinking. What do other people consider good drinking water.

When I first moved to the area long ago we had a shallow well and the water had a funk to it from the mineral content. Perfectly safe but not perfectly pleasant.
  We (my ex and myself) were turned on to this spring about 15 minutes away from our home. That was back in '88.
  With our recent home purchase we found that the well had the same funk. The spring that did us so well in the past was again very close by (10 minutes).

I've been meaning to share this and ask you folks this question for a while now.

We have a 225 foot deep well and tests safe but well water quality can change without notice so we drink water post a UV light and RO filtration system. Not needed but I feel better knowing its safe without doubt.

Britta filter pitcher in the fridge.   Makes what comes out of the tap taste as good as water from a natural limestone spring, and that was the best water I ever had.   Better than bottled for sure. 

I never drink water because of the disgusting things that fish do in it.

My wife only drinks Poland Spring from those plastic bottles. I feel for the dolphins, so I drink whatever comes out of the faucet. The government says it's safe!   

Does she know bottled water is usually just somebody else's municipal water supply?

And as to the original question, I have Lake Michigan water.  It tastes fine from the tap.

Interesting bit of trivia: there's basically no regulation on bottled water. You could literally take water from your tap and bottle and sell it and there's no one to say shit about it. You have to back up your claims - so if you say it's purified, it has to be. But if you just call it bottled water, you're golden.

This is why buying bottled 'spring water' can be iffy; plenty of Eastern mountain springs yield water with an unhealthy quantity of cytoplasts (I think I have that name right) - basically the same bacteria that's in cat boxes. Unless it's labeled (and can be verified) as purified, you're really no better off.

Me, I generally drink whatever comes from the tap.

The house we just rented has a RO filtration system, and that water is pretty darned nice and enjoyable.

Maybe I'll start my own water company.  My well will yield 45 GPM I'm told so I could do a pretty good business.  Mmmmm.  Filtered earth juice... 

Our municipal tap water is consistently rated highly, but I don't like the taste of chlorine.
We've been using RO units since the '80s at home, but I VERY seldom drink water (or any liquid, really) unless its saturated with caffeine.
