I bought a used German hand coffee mill (a Zassenhaus mill that about 2.5" x 2.5" x 4"). The problem is the grinder and its support frame is rusty. I'll get all of the loose stuff off with a brush and Dremel tool with a brush. The problem, and the question for EOE, is what to coat things with when I'm done. Painting is out, of course. WD-40 strikes me as a dumb idea. About the only thing that might be a winner is olive oil. But what might it do to the ground coffee? Or is there something else that can do the job?

Almond oil is going to have less flavor than olive.

Not foo-foo at all. Cafe du Monde's coffee, black, will put hair on a gorilla's chest. Beignets? One of life's better sin foods - damn near as good as bacon!

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been thinking about grinding something that will clean up the remain stuff, won't waste good coffee beans, and won't leave any flavor.

Amazon? Even Bed Bath & Beyond has it. It won't affect your digestion in the amounts used to protect a knife or other kitchen tool.

It's also excellent for conditioning and sealing cutting boards.
