Today was the day that Dan could stop saying "I told you so" whenever I rued buying the Honda. I took the Transalp to Moto Mader dealership, handed over the keys and rode home on this beauty:

The ride home wasn't as long as I was hoping for, as I got a late start out of the dealership and the sunlight was fading. Still, about an hour and a half on some lovely Swiss backroads gave me plenty of time to bond with the new bike   


So the plan was originally that I'd just get a 2nd F800GS. But then Dan started thinking: since *I* was the one who bought a bike that I didn't like, then *he* should get the choice of replacement bike. Then he started talking about the F800GS Adventure (Adventure!!!  ) and he decided that he deserved this new bike. We're still discussing this....    The current plan is just switch bikes every day on our trip through England - we'll see how that goes 


The new bike (referred to now as "The Red Bike") is so much smoother than the '09 ("The Grey Bike") - it's like night and day. The wind protection is great, the throttle response is perfect, the seat height comfortable... Dan's going to have a bit of fight for this one

What a nice step up!   

The set up - yeah, this thing is a wide load with the boxes on it    Just watching the guy roll it out of the dealership's doors and I thought "will it even fit?!?!"  I'll have to keep that in mind (um, DAN will have to keep that in mind  ) when threading past traffic...

Since Dan thought that he might have this bike he went all out with the BMW cases and GPS. The seat is stock, but pretty comfy. We have a bit of planning to do though, as our trip to England is in two weeks and the first service is at 1,000km. Looks like we'll be one of those "we had to get service during our trip!" stories. I just hope that we can find someone who will squeeze us in. This dealership didn't have any openings until July 2nd

Okay, I will address the 800lb gorilla in the room. The Honda was a soul-less beast, akin to Coors beer, a Walmart blender, or a leaf rake. She wanted something that would cause a reaction-she wanted to feel something*. There I said it.





*This also flies in the face of Chornbe's theory that "problems=soul". If that were true, the Honda would have some.

That's because I didn't say too much about it either way. It did its job, it was comfortable and it ran well enough. But as Max Wedge so eloquently put it, it was a soulless beast. And not just because its a Honda. You guys remember how much I loved my VFR, even storing it in the living for a year because I couldn't bear to sell it... 


But damn... Coors beer. I wouldn't say it was that bad. I just didn't love it.
