I emailed this to a few guys I ride with that razz me about my gear. My message wasn't in their face, it was something like, "you guys make fun of my gear all I want, but look what I can do with a belt sander."
I thought the image of the video would be a little eye opening. Out of the three, I received two replies:
1) "Doug, thanks for sharing. That is a very visual reminder of why I should consistently wear my gear."

2) "Most riders tumble with they fall off the bike, not slide. Being hot and dehydrated is more dangerous if you ask me."

BTW, this is the same guy who thinks I ride too fast BECAUSE of the false security provdied by the gear.

Some folks will never get it. I hope he doesn't have to "get it" the hard way. My previous boss purchased his first motorcycle (Honda Nighthawk 750) and asked me about riding and gear. He said he was leaning towards a cruiser but wanted to get comfortable first on the Honda (smart man). He was concerned about being made fun of for wearing a full face. I provided him a copy of David Hughes' book and my boss did go with a full face.
Just 1 month into riding, a car was in his lane in a right-hander and ran him off the road. He slid in the shoulder, tried to recover, and was face planted in the road. He's thanked me 100x for convincing him to go with a full face.
