The 2014 racing season is upon us. Which means there is REALLY big news: It's time to compete again for
The Highly Coveted STO: EOE Fantasy Racing Cup!
Gaze upon the beauty of last year's MotoGP cup, won by motociclista (and a shout out to repeat WSBK champion Slippin, who now has bookends):

I know, right? So, of course, you're thinking, "I can play for free, and win that? And all I have to do is pick riders in MotoGP races?"
That's correct, excited young person. You can.
This is for fun on the board. We set up a private league in the MotoGP fantasy game at motorcycleusa.com. We have no connection with them. They just have a really easy game and let you set up leagues. You have to register with them -- just so you know.
And then, with just the smallest bit of effort, no money, and less knowledge than it takes to start a shah'd thread, you could join the STx: EOE Hall of Champions (see below)! And win a cheesy stunningly beautiful yet surprisingly inexpensive trophy, known worldwide as "Motorcycle Racing's Most Sought After Prize. More or Less."
Here's how to play:
motorcycleusa.com has once again set up its fantasy racing game. It's MotoGP only this year. No WSBK game :(
The game is easy. You register and pick riders and a team for each race. You don't have to know jack. See the site for details on how to play.
Here's what you need to do now:
1. Set up your team. You can go ahead and pick the winners for race 1 at the game site. That will get you into the overall game.
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Fantasy-Racing-Home/Default.aspx (http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Fantasy-Racing-Home/Default.aspx)
2. PM me your email address AND your team name and STO name. I'll send you an invitation to join the STO League. It should, by the way, be the same email address you used when you registered for the game in step 1.
3. There is no step 3. You're done. Well, okay, you should do a little trash talking in this thread, or facepalm for the rider that binned, but that's not a requirement.
Did I mention that it's free?
THE STx: EOE HALL OF CHAMPIONS
Holders of the Highly Coveted STx: EOE Fantasy Racing Cup
WSBK:
2010: nater
2011: RRdvark
2012: Slippin
2013: Slippin
MotoGP:
2010: nater
2011: motodog650
2012: R Doug
2013: motociclista
2014: Could it be you???
* Trophy disclaimer: The rules committee has determined that the exact shape and form of this year's cup will depend on two factors: (a) whether or not this particular trophy is still being made and (b) how grumpy I am about losing. But it will look exactly like this or shittier. You have my word. And we'll custom engrave your name or your team name. Or "Brenda", if you'd like. We're not judgmental at Fantasy Cup HQ. Heck, someone named Brenda might even play. Besides, it's free. Someone remind Blunder that it's free.
-
Soooooo in.
Thanks, non-Birthday Ed!
-
I'm afraid to tell people my birthday around here. It could start a loop that would crash the whole internet.
-
I guess if it's free it's for me. ;D
-
I'm IN!!!!
Thanks, Ed!
-
I'd really like to be in, but I know nothing...where do you watch races to figure out what's going on?
-
According to the motogp.com website, Fox Sports 1 will have the races again. They'll show the MotoGP race live, the Moto2 same day delay, and the Moto3 delayed (Tuesdays, if they follow their old habits).
-
I will be back to defend my title! I had also hoped to continue my futile efforts in WSBK, too, but Motorcycle-USA saw fit to put a stop to that. Oh well.
Anyway, for those who missed it or who just need a little encouragement, I'm hereby copying over my post from that other forum titled:
Why you should play STN Fantasy Racing in 2014
At the request of Commissioner of Racing Squeezer, I'm posting a photo of my highly coveted STN EOE MotoGP Fantasy Racing Cup. When the Commissioner of Racing asks you to do something, you jump. Don't want to get on the bad side of the race stewards, you know. Although I probably would have done it anyway.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
Of course now that you've seen what a fine hunk of metal the STN EOE Cup is, you surely understand why it's so highly coveted. And you'll definitely want to win one for yourself in 2014, which is my real reason for posting. We need more people to sign up for the STN Fantasy Racing League. Especially people who aren't going to score more points than me and Commissioner of Racing Squeezer.
As a bonus pic, here's the STN EOE Cup on display in my garage. What! you say? In the garage and not in the trophy room in the house?
You should know, all my favorite things are in the garage.

I'd really like to be in, but I know nothing...
So you will know more than 1/2 of us! Its fun and a good way to learn the riders.
-
For the record let me state that I am shocked at the lengths you all have gone to stop my championship run in WSBK!!! I heard rumor of threats, blackmail and more than a couple grainy photos of the top brass at Motorcycle-USA with various farm animals!! That sort of stuff is beneath you…well…at least some of you!! ;)
GP only..count me in. I'll try to think of myself a bit like Colin Edwards - 2 time WSBK champ still searching for that first GP win!!
Thanks Ed for getting this set up. I look forward to another fun season!
-
Starting the smack talk early!
-
I'm in! My interest in MotoGP has really picked up in the past two years. Jorge has a lot to do with that. :inlove:
Last season, I was going to be at my parents' house for the last race of the year. First, I made sure they had the right channel. If they hadn't, I was going to go over to my brother's house early that Sunday morning to watch the race. Next, I was up, showered, dressed, and eating breakfast by the time the race came on. When my dad finally toddled downstairs 30 minutes later, he was really surprised I was "up and at 'em" that early. "For a MOTORCYCLE RACE?!?" he asked. "Yup!" I replied. :smiley_thumb:
Anyhoo...team formed and PM sent. Thanks, Prof. Ed!
-
In, plus I get FoxSports1
- Dan
-
Billingsgate Racing ready to go...
(running under the factory rules, as God intended it)
-
in...
-
As a favor to everyone here, I'm playing again this year. Now none of you will have to come in last.
You're welcome,
Team HELPMYLEGISSTUCKINTHECHAIR

I'll be the Ben Spies to your Colin Edwards - 1-time Superbike champ trying to find success in GP. I just hope my shoulder doesn't explode and my mom doesn't start managing my activities.
-
And I've had some good runs but no championsh...
Ah, feck. I don't wanna be Pedrosa. >:(
By the way, I have informed keeb via PM that finishing last in this league isn't as easy as he thinks.
We have 10 invited players so far (including me), plus motociclista and R Doug have claimed they're in. We're heading to a good number! Maybe we can actually match the grid this year.
-
It's starting to look like this year's STN EOE Cup will be won by a software engineer among us who can understand the pros and cons of various ECUs and who has an inside source at Dorna to get the early line on weekly rule changes to "level the playing field." Anyone fit that profile?
???
-
Mini Spooners Racing representing the cereal population once again! Everybody will soon be wishing they had some of my frosted, 9 grain, breaksfasty goodness.
Also, while I would love to win the coveted and impressively awesome trophy, I really only need to beat Keeb to claim the win in this sibling rivalry.
-
Everyone can retire their team now. I'm winning this one!

Is this new "Factory 2" class actually going to happen before the season starts? This really is getting confusing.

I loved that movie. :bigok: Maybe I should watch it again to see how it held up...
-
One more bump because MotoGP is racing next weekend. Get in the game. See the OP for details.
For those of you already in, double check the site to see if you're showing up in the league. Drop me PM if you want me to sent another invitation. And don't forget to make your picks.
I'm stoked about seeing them back on the track.

We're 30 some hours away from fp1. Last bump for players.

Can not wait!! Rubbing hands in hopeful anticipation of some good racing.

I love pigs. Especially in a skillet.

Jorge crashed out and I turned to Cablebandit - as I was putting in headphones - and said, "I guess I'm watching Thursday's 'Scandal' now!" But the season is young!!!
-
Whisky Tango Foxtrot.
Two thirds of my riders crashed out! :-\
Only two thirds - I was able to pull the clean sweep - 3 for 3 on riders & my team was Tech 3!!
Of course the fantastic race more than made up for how crappy my fantasy team did!!
-
 At least Bautista picked me up 5 points for fastest lap.
-
 At least Bautista picked me up 5 points for fastest lap.
Hey, good news since I had him too! I'm glad he wasn't a total washout.
-
Ok, the good news is that I'm not in last. Bad news is that I wasted a pick on Jorge! Oh well. Time to make up some points!
-
I picked a Duc and it finished in the top 5! Bautista definitely a buzz kill though.
-
Based on last years' races, qualifying, and practices, I knew Bradl and Smith can be wildcards. Of course, both of them pale in comparison to de Puniet's DNFs.
When Brandl went down, I was patting myself on the back for not picking him. Then down fell Bautista and Smith. I nearly had the trifecta because I almost picked the 99. And, into the first corner, I was kicking myself for not picking him. Then, he had that epic off.
Fantasy racing makes watching the race much more entertaining.
-
It really feels like there aren't going to be any easy picks this season.

That is more like it - I get my picks right...and so do a lot of others.
-
I actually tied for first overall this race -- with about a zillion others. Well, at least 20.
-
Nicky Hayden just got fired....
well, from my team at least. Even the guys on BT Sports commented how SLOW he was. >:(
FoxSpurts is getting fired at the end of the month too. Man what horrible coverage/commentary/camera work and I counted at least 5 commercials in a row (5:34 was the longest break) every 10 minutes or so. Good thing we DVR'd it to skip thru ALL the commercials.
After watching the race with my daughter (again) I started to wonder:
Those Duc's are sure looking strong. I wonder how long they can keep it going?
Can Pol best his brother?
When is Pedroza going to say enough is enough, high side it again and be hurt for the remainder of the season (or out) pushing to catch MM in lieu of running in 2nd?
When is HRC going to Bring back Stoner to replace DP when he is "hurt" in a practice session? or will it be the Little Marquez stepping up to "fill in"? Miller from Moto2?
When is Jorge going to throw caution to the wind and challenge MM without a) high siding and getting hurt b) running it into the kitty litter c) taking Rossi out in the process d) biffng it at the start or mid 1st lap again?
How cool was the selfie of all 3 on the podium? two of the three looked to be really enjoying it...
-
I feel like Lorenzo having to catch up from behind because of some BS mistake.
-
Nicky Hayden just got fired....
well, from my team at least. Even the guys on BT Sports commented how SLOW he was. >:(
Yeah, but still was the highest finishing Honda production bike.
-
I feel bad for Hayden. He was consistently as fast as Dovi last year and now Dovi can do 3rd on the Duc (thanks to the factory/open rule) while Nicky struggles with no power/acceleration.
Oh, for the days of all the bikes being competitive.
-
Oh, for the days of all the bikes being competitive.
this is the problem with the top tier. money buys success. try to make it "even" and we are back to WSB? what to do??
As for Hayden, or the rest of them for that matter, it's a bit hard to feel sorry for young millionaires who get to ride motorcycles and travel the world for "work" ;)
I'm assuming the salary was part of reason for the change as he is making 300K more than Dovi?
in case you where wondering: Honda appears to be reaping a far better ROI than Yamaha?
MotoGP 2014 Riders Salaries
NO. # DRIVER TEAM SALARY ENDORSEMENTS
1 Valentino Rossi Yamaha Factory Racing $12m $10m
2 Jorge Lorenzo Yamaha Factory Racing $7.2m $2m
3 Dani Pedrosa Repsol Honda Team $3.9m
4 Marc Marquez Repsol Honda Team $3m
5 Cal Crutchlow Ducati Team $1.9m
6 Stefan Bradl LCR Honda $1.2m
7 Alvaro Bautista Gresini Racing $900,000
8 Nicky Hayden Aspar Team $1.3m
9 Andrea Dovizioso Ducati Team $1.0m
10 Scot Redding Gresini Racing $650,000
11 Colin Edwards Forward Racing $400,000
-
I don't think salary had anything to do with Hayden's decision. He did not leave Ducati to make more money riding for Aspar. Ducati booted him. He took the best ride he could get to stay in MotoGP. The only thing you could second-guess is whether he should have gone to WSBK and gotten a more competitive ride, but he didn't have any better options in MotoGP.
-
Yeah, I'd have loved to see him in WSBK. Then again, if he was there, I probably wouldn't be seeing him. I haven't seen any of the WSBK races this year and probably won't since I'm not buying their web package.
I think he really believed the production Hondas would be more competitive than this. I don't see him being able to do anything this year except race Scott Redding for best in class.
By the way, Cal is out for Argentina. They had to put a pin in the finger he broke at COTA. Pirro is taking his place on the factory Duc.
-
I'll be in the hills of WV this weekend at the Spring Meet. I hope the lodge has decent WiFi. :o

Don't you think the Aspar contract is considerably better than he could do in WSBK? I assume the perks in motoGP are considerably better as well. Doesn't seem like too many are willing to leave it for WSBK or anything else?
-
So far, my title defense would be going perfectly according to plan... if my plan was to pick riders who crash.
-
Yep. Bautista is killing me.
-
First weekend for the VideoPass for me. I liked it.
-
Yep. Bautista is killing me.
I thought I picked Alvaro but mistakenly picked Abraham. Best mistake I've made lately netted me 3 unexpected points ;D
-
Yeah, well I didn't pick the winners!
-

I love the tabs on the bottom. It is a fantastic idea if you want to go back and rewatch a pass.
-
Yeah, well I didn't pick the winners!
The upside there is that you have great picks in the bank.
-
been playin the "what if..." game while making my picks this week...do I fire Alexi or stick with him after his remarkable run back into the points paying positions after biffing it? I could be in first by a slim margin if he finished in his "normal" position.
any reason to trust the Ducs yet?
when is Bradel going to start being consistant?
when is Rossi gonna pull one outta his leathers and suprise us all?
help me out here guys.
-
If you get some help, pass it on.
I'd settle for knowing if Bautista will stay upright (wasn't it Bradl who went pavement surfing in the first few races of last season?).
A. Espargaro and the Ducs are tough to figure out since they can qualify on those soft tires that the open class can use but that are apparently too soft to go race distance.
Is Ianonne (I'm not sure where all the n's go) really the best Duc rider?
When will the Yammie factory guys find their mojo again?
I think this season is really to tough to call once you get past Marquez winning all 18 races. I'm really having a much harder time making picks this year. It's driving me nuts. :willy:
-
I figured picking Dovi for the first few races was a good plan - he'll finish decent (maybe even podium) with the open rules and extra gas, then start sucking when they take it away. Felt like a genius after the podium. Now - not so much.
-
SO much for picking Ione (sp)
-Dan
-
SO much for picking Ione (sp)

I think we're all likely to pick him at some point in the season since you'll eventually have 36 picks out of that group and you can only pick one rider six times. It's just a matter of figuring out when...
-
At least Bautista didn't crash. Anybody pick him this time?
-

I didn't. Which is why he didn't crash.
-

I thought it was because I didn't pick him.
Also, I really thought Pol would place higher than his big brother. >:(
-
I was counting on big brother fading too. I was counting on Bradl not fading. And, see, that's the problem with the world. It's tough to count on things.
Outside of the game, I'm rooting for Aleix. I'd really like to see him on a factory bike.
-
Iannone.

You to eh'... Of course Bautista podiums the week I don't pick him :o

Ok, enough playing around! I'm in the basement and need to do some homework!
-
so after ditching DTV and their pathetic coverage and picking up the MGP video pass it is so nice to watch the WHOLE race uninterrupted. ;D
As i review and ponder the next race picks (and how to protect my commanding 2 point lead) I'm struggling with giving up on JLo while gaining confidence in the Duc's? Have I been in the sun to long?
I agree that Alexi should be on a factory ride too...wonder if Yamaha might have an opening soon?
-

So agree. We dumped cable TV about a month ago and went to streaming services and OTA. I miss Formula 1, but I'm really enjoying watching more MotoGP.

I'm predicting Lorenzo comes on strong in the second half of the season. And I'd like to see elder Espargaro on Pedrosa's bike next year but I have no idea if they're even talking.
-
Whahoo!!! First place! Just had to get that in while it lasted. Carry on.
-
I'm predicting Lorenzo comes on strong in the second half of the season.
I'm hoping so because I'm all out of MM picks. :-\ ;D
-
ooofffffff..... Figures, I pick Bradl to do good and he dumps it in the kitty litter. >:( There went my commanding 2 point lead.
on a side note, my 15 yo daughter pointed out that it looked like MM was messing with JLo the last few laps, passed him and pulled away. Nice!
I also thought it was interesting how MM was genuinely congratulating other riders (I forget who) and Rossi seems to be having the time of his life. Fun stuff.
-
wow...what a race.
A few observations I made.
1.) the top 3 are having way to much FUN riding and racing...a little bumpy here and there but clean.
2.) NASCAR/AMA racing/F1 (to a certain extent) drivers could learn a thing or two from the MGP guys and how to lighten up and show some enthusiasm when they win, a friend wins, and when chiding each other.
2a.) Lewis Hamilton should have been taking notes on how to act/support teammates not posing for the few "fans" on the starting grid. He owes me a new keyboard (spit coffee all over it) since he "announced" he was going to run MGP after his F1 career was done....right Hamilton, you keep thinking that and don't bother to look at history.
3.) Pedroza needs a specialty cleaner for his leathers after this weekend...'nuff said. It was good to see him have pace with MM though.
4.) JLo has officially checked out of the championship race.
anything I miss???
-
So I gambled on the weather and it completely bit me in the arse! >:( I was so hoping for some rain so that the Ducatis would have a chance.
-
I've started my run to the top after a mediocre first half a dozen rounds. You've been warned :twofinger:
-
I, on the other hand, seem to have started my run toward the bottom. Dropped like a stone the last couple of races.
I'm thinking of firing the team manager.
-

Maybe you can poach Gigi from Ducati. He's probably starting to feel like Rossi did at this point in 2011...
-
Don't forget ladies, Assen GP this weekend as always is a Saturday race.
Don't want to win this thing on a technicality ;D
-
already updated, hoping to remember to look at the lap times on Friday for any necessary rider adjustments...

You sir, are a class act.
Thanks!

Wait. Is THAT how I should be doing it? I've been picking my guys based on their hotness factor. 8)
-
Losing money on Bautista? I got all googly on Mark and Alvaro until I realized I was (more than) old enough to be their mother.
Jorge doesn't do a thing for me.

Haven't done it that way yet - been relying on pocks made at the end of each race when I check my standings. I just save my racers then. SHOULD be looking at who's on the front row, second row, etc., but I'm apparently too lazy.
- Dan
-
My strategy is to figure out who will crash and then pick them.
So, Mrs. Cablebandit, I'm telling Chris you like short guys. ;)
-
Did anyone else pick Jorge this past weekend? I received 3 points for his finish. Am I missing something? Did he receive a post race penalty?
-
There's no mention of a penalty on the official motogp site, at least none that I could find.
My score hasn't been updated yet. There's gotta be some kind of glitch.
-
Checked earlier this morning and my score had not been updated. Something's gotta be screwed up on their end.
-
And you know, since I had effing Bradl again, I'm not all that excited to see my score.
What a wild start to the race. And I really love that track.
-
What a wild start to the race. And I really love that track.
Agreed on both statements. :smiley_thumb:
-
Latest standings are finally out.
-
That must have been a tough race for the EOE crowd. I gained a few spots for the Highly Coveted Cup but lost a few in the overall standings. I don't think that's happened before.
So, it's good we get a break. At the halfway point, I'd describe my season as a Crutchlow. Not much was expected and it was shittier than that. Since Cal's in the hospital, maybe I can prep for the second half with brain surgery.
Herve Poncharal, Tech 3:
But as I said before, competition is a bitch and this isn't the Red Cross so it's sometimes very difficult and very harsh.
-
Well, I apparently picked Marquez 7/6 times and Factory Yamaha 5/4 times...
I must have misunderstood the writing on the wall...
-
In case anyone else missed the announcement like I did, Nicky is out for both Indy and Brno due to his latest surgery. Camier will ride the bike.
-
GGGAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.......f'n Ducati...........Gaaaahhhhhh......#$%^@*#&$^#&@*.....@&#($&&@^#%$ ducati. >:(
Why, OH WHY did you fool me into thinking you were going to do good after the break with new engines? Seduce me with a #2 grid spot, sniffing MM's rear tire in qualifying? Tease me with threesom...YES, THREEsom of duc's doing good.
I went from a solid second to Fifth....I think I need a fifth of something right about now. :o
Dammit....
-
Only Duc I had this week was Iannone. He Iannonied me again.
SumoMoto is in first overall.

Yes! Moved to the top step on the big podium today. Now its just trying to avoid the downward spiral of the second half as top picks are used up. I have to thank squeezer for pointing out picking riders for weeks in advance  allowing me to avoid my usual summer break fowl ups while on vacation.

GGGAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.......f'n Ducati...........Gaaaahhhhhh......#$%^@*#&$^#&@*.....@&#($&&@^#%$ ducati. >:(
Why, OH WHY did you fool me into thinking you were going to do good after the break with new engines? Seduce me with a #2 grid spot, sniffing MM's rear tire in qualifying? Tease me with threesom...YES, THREEsom of duc's doing good.
I went from a solid second to Fifth....I think I need a fifth of something right about now. :o
Dammit....
I did the same thing. Being there all weekend and seeing the Ducs (except for Cal) near the top of every practice, etc... I got a little too confident in picking too many Ducs this past weekend. :o

SumoMoto is in first overall.
SumoMoto is still first overall. Way to go!
I squeezed into second and have a LONG way to go if I'm going to catch up. :-\

I managed to edge my way into 4th, but I'm 51st overall so that's a good indicator of how big a lead SumoMoto's got.
It would be awfully cool to see an EOE take the whole thing.
Judging by scores, I guess I'm not the only one who went with Tech 3. Oops.
Not a lot of action in the second part of the race, but it sure was momentous. I wasn't sure Marquez would ever lose again.

Tech 3 and Pol cost me a few points this weekend, but I'm still clinging on overall. I was off on a fishing trip this weekend, and had no idea who I had picked while watching the recorded race. Great start to the race, with an unexpected and somewhat uneventful finish. I was pumped to see Rossi on the podium once again after Marquez had third. Crazy Joe don't take no guff from Marky Marq!!! That was a fun moment to watch.

Yeah, that was sweet. It really did seem like they were back in Moto2. Makes you want to see Iannone on a competitive bike, doesn't it?
