It responded, but who cares?

The community of eight people and one monitor.
As opposed to here where we have 20 people and to moderators.

The numbers don't lie; we win.

Well if .org splits, then it could be two groups of 10 people and 1 moderator and then everything would be equal again.

Well, I did register sport-tractor.org last time this came up. :D

Not sure what happened FNG and all but we have 966 guests and 119 spiders. They only have 73 guests and no spiders.
Did that help? Have I been bad again?
-
They must be spiders from Mars.
I check from time to time PO I don't see care.

If you were there long enough to learn that you need to go take a very hot shower right now. Do you have any Phisohex?

Not being a dick for once. Why would anyone that migrated here go back to that loser bbs? Serious question.

I'd poke my head in over there because that's where the WCRM discussions were taking place and I keep hoping I'll get free to go. Looks like there was no such discussion this year.

F*ck Neal.
I hold no ill will against Neal.
He created and ran a great site for quite a few years.
It was time to move on and he did.
I joined in 2002, even though "the dog is dead", I still visit once and a while. (IMO .net had a good run)
Met a lot of good people, had fun, shared a few laughs, shared a few rides, good memories. :bigok:

This is where I'm at in regards to .net. I check in every once in a while to see if anything has been posted by anyone interesting. The answer is generally no.

Almost identical for me. Joined in 2002. Met st2sam, Neal, and a bunch of other good people in Custer, SD in 2003. I've been on rides all over the U.S. and Canada with a bunch of them through the years. Never posted that much on .Net except on topics about riding and safety. Those dinosaurs became extinct a long time ago when politics and personalities took over the .Net world.

I'll "me too" that one. Except I didn't join nearly that early.

I was just there a minute ago. All of the content seems to be from raijboy. :o

He's like Don Quixote; tilting against the windmills of Scully and maybe 1 or 2 others.

Hi back.
Tell Cookie i'm dead. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about Scott.

No you're not.

Tears in rain, man. Tears in rain.

I've been posting a lot in the ride reports section.

See you next Saturday at E. Joes!

Someone must be reading STN, my ride report thread has nearly 18,000 views.

So all 18k must just be raj sockpuppets. Huh.
Not really that surprising.

make that 17,999. I've read them and they are pretty good, if you like Arkansas and Oklahoma back roads.

Just checked. It looks like it should be renamed rajflyboy.net

I left around 07 after years of making a fool of myself but I did have fun and am grateful to Neil for the fact that I met a bunch of nice people and was introduced to some great roads. Time marches on. Things change.
Have fun while you can.
Now I stop in here for a peek occasionally but I've only made 1 meet in the last 5 or 6 years.
Maybe the next one......

. Same here joined on version 1.0 then changed user name on 2.0 . I met a ton of great people because of the site and went to a lot of fun meets all over the country. My memories will always be fond ones because of the good .

I don't know the backstory, but I joined here when I noticed that riderforums.com seemed to be dying (but it's not dead yet, just a little inactive), and the Ninja 650 forum at BRP had also died. It seemed odd that there was a sport-touring.net and a sport-touring .org, and I joined the one that seemed most active. Is there a thread that explains the issue?
-
Yeah, the discussions are out there. Probably not worth the effort.
The Cliff Notes version: the owner of sport-touring.net eventually got tired of the effort and sold it to a commercial hosting company. Some of us didn't like the ads, some didn't like other things. FJR1300 set up .org with the same structure so it would stay a true community board.
No knock on Neal, who owned .net. He poured in years of volunteer work to run a hugely popular board. Eventually, you want to do other things. I'll always have good memories and friends from there and figure I still owe him a beer or two.

Well, since I typed it while Baxter was typing, I might as well post.
.net was a fairly big-much bigger than this-forum and thriving. Dantes Dame was a mod, so were various well known others and Connie got teased about cats.
It went through various incarnations but eventually fell foul of its one weakness. Although it was the product of its members, it was owned by one man. Donations were given to keep it running, but adverts came in despite this and, finally, it was sold.
Members fled from the adverts, usually after arguing with the owner, and it virtually folded after a big company bought it.
Someone else can add more detail and write the history of .org but it was essentially FJR1300 offering a home to refugees.

This is pretty fair and accurate as i remember it, but what left a bad taste in my mouth was when the ads showed up everyone was mostly understanding, but Neal was asked if he was going to sell. He said, "no, no, no. I wouldn't ever do that*" then it was proposed that if he ever thought about it, he would give the members a shot at buying it. Then he sold it. So yes, I owe him beer for all the work he put into it, and I am thankful for all the great people I have met here, but I resent the fact that I was just a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder, and the fact he lied about it.
If I have misunderstood this, my apologies.
* this was done because rumblings of being sold and ads coming were causing people to leave, which would have hurt his selling price. So he denied the sale to keep the bidders in the game. He lied to loyal people and members for his own personal gain. I have no respect for that.-
-
I never had problems with the pop up ads that others complained about. Maybe because I use a browser that blocks pop-ups unless allowed by user. What turned me away was other issues.
I posted some industry information, it was non-confidential inside intelligence that was factual but not easily verifiable and one too many people called me stupid. None ever posted any counter data, just insults. I recognize that’s common practice on the inter web. But who needs that? I like it here.
-
I wonder how ol' Adbot is doing?
-
Thanks for the explanation!
-
Max,
That's quite accurate, and I share the feelings.
Overall I was a big fan of .net. I met a lot of good folks, got in on many rides (all over the USA) Attended several National (even helped set up one or two). But in the end I understand the reason the membership dwindled, most folks move on and find new interests. Just glad I have a place to come and play, listen and well pass the time besides most of you folks are on the wrong side of the country :blbl:
