I figured I'd announce it here first. Save the date! We usually start around noon or 1 or so. Plenty of room to camp at night (if you choose to stay), a firepit, and a pool to enjoy. :bigok: See you then!

I sure would like to say that you could toss cat on the barbie for me, but June is so far away, yet so close. I won't know what I am doing until June 19th, at the earliest. Any chance I could be put down as huge 'maybe' or 'last minute hanger-on'? I sure would like to attend one year.....

I may be an eat and run attendee - Wife's annual girl's weekend is that weekend, and while my daughter is at camp, son is only 10 and he's not allowed to ride with me. I may have coverage until 6pm CST, but with no traffic it's at least 3 hours - that's speeding with no traffic slabbing the entire way, meaning I'd have to leave by 3pm EST to be safe.
Worst case scenario, if I can't find coverage, maybe I'll drive up and bring him along. He loves BBQ...

I'd just drive if'n I were you. It's all about the food and camaraderie anyway. It's not like you'd be missing any good riding roads.

looks like it will work out, but if you take the back roads, it's not a bad ride. 12 to Red Arrow to Blue Star, then meander east on something at some point...
That's the only real riding I get besides track days (too few) or commuting (boring and/or slab).

"The Mackinac Bridge Authority tells 9&10 News the Bridge has been reopened.
It was shut down Thursday night after a semi truck was tipped over by strong winds.
The semi blew over on the northbound side of the bridge.
Strong winds blew through the Straits Area at more than 65 miles per hour."
If the weather turns crappy, make sure the bridge is open. :thumbsup:

Reminds me of my granny, who is terrified of bridges. She's got a good reason for it, though. Whenever my great-grandfather would take her over the Eads Bridge in St. Louis, he'd slow down in the middle of it and let her know it was a good spot to drop her off.

Getting Here
Interstate I-75 brings you to the ferry docks of both Mackinaw City (Lower Peninsula) and St. Ignace (Upper Peninsula). Access to the island can be made from both of these cities. The exits are clearly marked for several miles.
All season long, Mackinac Island is serviced from both of these cities by three ferry companies: Arnold Transit, Shepler’s Ferry, and Star Line Ferry. Each has their own fleet of high speed ferries that can take passengers from port to island in less than half an hour.
Pellston Airport is serviced by Delta Airlines and is approximately fifteen miles from the island. Mackinaw Shuttle Services and Wolverine Stages are located in the main terminal of the airport to provide ground transportation to the ferries headed towards the island. Additionally, Great Lakes Air is a full service, affordable passenger and freight charter service that offers a 7 minute flight from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island.

No, family road trip from CHicago. If I recall correctly, there are these places they make fudge right in front of you on giant white marble slabs, sliding the chocolate back and forth. Had pink signs I believe, and even tho the island was small there were like, 4 or 5 shops that sold it? Maybe just the one where they made it... Anyway, that's what I remember. Don't remember the horse poop, although I would expect to...

Truth. You can get all places around town by walking, and everywhere else via bike or horse and driver. It's a great place and is like a step back in time. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

As soon as it swiveled down to look through the grating for a good 10 count, I knew it wasn't a GoPro. I figured the tracking was too straight and you'd have been over the median by then. :crazy:

We stopped at the next service plaza to fill the bike and empty the bladders.
We pretty much tooled along just a hair faster than traffic (about 85ish) from that point until PA.

PS. The DEET keeps the blackflies off, but only by a few millimeters. I'm surprised that dozens of people per year aren't suffocated just from inhaling them.

The last 15 miles or so of US41 are possibly the perfect motorcycle road if you subscribe to the 'pace' method. I'm pretty sure I was in third gear all the way & never touched the brakes just rolled the throttle like a rheostat. I want to move to Copper Harbor and get a job in one of the other towns along the peninsula just so I can ride in and out of C.H. twice a day every day. I has been a long time since I rode such buttery smooth pavement that clung so tenaciously to the nap of the earth. I had a moto-chubby almost the whole time.

I am currently in Copper Harbor. I left Head's place about half an hour ago half in the bag on his awesome brew. :beerchug:
That spectacular bit of road was US41. The last fifteen-ish miles into C.H. were positively transcendent. I'd guess the asphalt was laid last year because it's fully cured and seasoned but not yet deteriorating. Mmm...MotoNirvana. :drool:
