I took the Ninja to the next town for lunch and their BIG hardware store to bed-in the new rear brake pads.
Got a free bike wash on the ride home.  I didn't bother with the rain pants because I wasn't that far.

I DID!!
I rode ALL DAY today.

Hit the road on the Ninja at dawn; 6 am
Rode south - to get a better view of the eclipse.  Didn't make it to the 'path of totality', but I didn't plan to because I didn't want to deal with crazy traffic.
I rode down to Bloomington IL and checked the weather for which direction would have the clearest skies.  I went SW.  Ended up south of Springfield, IL.   The sky was mostly clear, but the eclipse was a bit disappointing. It never got dark - barely at all.  The only reason I knew it was happening was because I knew the start (and max) time.  I pulled off the road, took the eclipse glasses out of the thank bag and confirmed it was starting.   I kept riding south and west and checking it every so often until it was at about 66%.
I had about 15 mins of rain on the trip down.  The trip back was practically perfect.
12.5 hrs.  680 miles.

Perfect day for a ride.
I went to Madisons airport, private pilots terminal restaurant (Jet Room) for lunch.   Nice place.  Nice view of the planes.  Just a bit hard to find as it doesn't have a sign on the outside of the bldg.
Then I went to the dairy and Hoard museum in Fort Atkinson.  Hoard was a WI governor that basically created the dairy industry.  They also have quite a bit about Lincoln, because his only military experience was in the Black Hawk war that was commanded from Fort Atkinson.  And they have info on the effigy mounds of WI (we have more than anyone else).  They pre-date known native american tribes.
200 miles.  A tad cool starting out (in mesh jacket) and a bit warm on the final leg home.

3 consecutive weeks of commuting via motorcycle in the books.  It felt freshly awkward to get behind the wheel and drive to a school function last night.  I'm happy to be commuting so much but we sure could use some rain--going on 23/24 days without on the western side of MI.

Was doing the dragon tail thingy last week. It sucked, 2500 miles, not a drop of rain, and I wore more rubber off the sides of the tires than the centers.

Riding the next few days...son and I are doing out annual color ride around the edge of Michigan. No plans or reservations anywhere, just wandering around the state until Sunday sometime. Drives my wife nuts. Where are you going to stay? where are you headed? Dunno and dunno.
