I received an email saying that my kid's school was closed tomorrow for inclement weather.  Didn't even know we were getting snow.

3-5" isn't anything to get crazy over but I guess in this world we live in it is.

Its crazy how often and quickly they close school these days. My kids had a two hour delayed start a couple of weeks ago due to the cold!

How or why do the school authority decide to close in your parts?
Up here, it's the transportation manager for school board that decides if they open or not. It's done before 6 AM, based on road conditions and weather forecast. Basically, the question is will they be able to pick the kids up and drive them back after school. Cold weather rarely affects the decision. Just bundle your kids up, they'll be fine.

That is usually the case for snow here too. But he cold weather threw me for a loop.

I believe that the school district's superintendent has the final say.  One school district can be open and the next one nearby will be closed, like it was today.  Our schools were closed, the next town over (say 5 miles) was open but early dismissal.

Yeah, that 3-5" didn't seem too accurate!  We have close to a foot with more coming.  School is closed for tomorrow as well.

Yep same here the closing and delays are varied district to district. They said 4 to 6 for us with high winds. We have an inch and no winds. 60 miles south east and its a foot and massive winds. Amazing. But I'll take it, no snow blowing at 5 am tmw when its 0 out.

Schools were opening two hours late this morning because of the cold.  It was -4° when they were supposed to go in.  It's now -3°.

I'm sure hundreds of lives were saved.   :csm:

It's cold enough for me too. Single digits all week... Thankfully I'm indoors most of the time & don't have to venture out for very long. F**k that!

It'll be single digits a lot here the next few days.  I'd still rather be outside then stuck in an office.

I have a meeting Sunday.  It's supposed to be -5° when I need to leave.  I debating whether or not to ride there.  If I don't that means I'll need to de-ice my truck from the last two storms and charge the battery.

If you don't drive it for two weeks it goes dead.  Gotta love those Diehard batteries.

-12 in my truck at 530 AM this morning with 10" - 14" of snow coming tomorrow.  I have meetings all throughout NJ on Friday morning; doubt the early AM ones will happen.  All I keep thinking is how nice it would have been to RIDE to all of these meetings instead of driving a salt covered truck over salt covered roads in stupid cold temperatures!

Eh.  Last week we got 3/4 inches of ice.  We lost approximately 3 dozen trees in addition to the countless stripped branches.  12 inches of snow? BFD.

To be honest, the area at he end of that pointer goes into hysterics with 1 inch forecasted 3 days out that turns out to be nothing more than a rain shower when it actually arrives.

Forecast was only off by a factor of 2-3.  Woke up to 18".  Picked up 4 more during the morning.  Predicted another 4 tonight.  That's only a bit off from 7-10 inches total.

The Melt is on for Colorado.

The 4" to 5" of snow, that existed last evening on my north facing patio wall, is gone (1pm).

Mid 40's for today. Low 50's forecast for Fri, high 50's Sat, low 60's Sun...

June / July / Aug / Sep will have complaints for too much heat  :-\

I love it.  18" give or take yesterday w/ blowing snow falling at unbelievable rates.  I had to remove a 3+ foot drift from my driveway but the truck had no snow on top of it.  :)  Today, it's sunny and mid 40s.  Made for a LOT of standing water on the way in this AM.
Pretty sure that pile of snow in the yard will be there for quite a while tho.
