Just out of curiousity-starter relays

I haven't done this-I'm dumb but not that dumb-if you connect a starter relay the wrong way round, would it blow the solenoid?

Which part? The trigger or the load?

Trigger +- wouldn't be bad, load +- wouldn't be either, I think, but switching the load side to the trigger side would torch the trigger side possibly.

edited to add: you talking about a solenoid? two terminals? or a relay, 4 or more?
We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

On a VFR of the same vintage as yours that's been exposed to the same environment I'd just replace it. It's likely near failure anyway and if it fails you ain't doin' shit.

Could you jump it with a screwdriver like we used to do to the cars of the 60's and 70's? (I still remember the 'master' key for any car-wire from the positive battery terminal to the positive on the coil, tap a screwdriver across the relay terminals, and viola! A running car!*)

* legal ramifications could still apply depending on situational context. Check your local laws.

Your engine will just start, and run, in reverse.   ;D

I've fitted a new starter relay-just wondering what would have happened if I'd reversed the terminals.

depending on how stout the interior was, either nothing or a ceremonial release of smoke.
