online ammo?
« on: December 11, 2020, 01:22:58 PM »
Has anyone ordered ammo online (I'm sure some of you have), so what places do you recommend? Not looking for bulk like "war dogs", but good quality. Seems unavailable around these parts.

Ammo is pretty much unavailable everywhere.

Depends on what I'm buying, but SGAMMO has done well by me.  Not the cheapest, but consistent, ships fast, and if they say its in stock, its in stock.

you can try wikiguns or ammoseek but these days you'll likely not find anything, and what you find will be $1/rd or more for what used to be $.16/rd. Crazy times.

SGammo has treated me well. Try lucky gunner as well. But retailers are having trouble getting anything in stock, and when it's in stock, it sells in 30 seconds. Set up email/text notifications if available and be prepared to buy instantly or you won't find anything.

Pricing is stupid now.  $1.50/2.00 a round for 45ACP.  9mm isn’t any better.

I've used Lucky Gunner before. As already mentioned, if you do find anything it's going to be stupid expensive.

I've used https://www.midwayusa.com/ for 10mm hunting ammo.  Good prices, good ammo, quick shipping.  The trick right now is whether or not ammo is even available.

Finding any in stock is a challenge and has been for months.  Haunt the sites you like and visit twice a day to snag what you need before it's gone.

If in CA, forget it. They want people to do 4473's for ammo purchase.

I will advise people to avoid Optics Planet for ANYTHING.  I had a Sig scope on back order (2 weeks) that they kept me on the hook for 7 months. Each time it got within a couple of days of shipping, they slipped the back order date another 2 weeks. When I started contacting them, it was always assurances and placating.  I finally called Sig directly and they said they hadn't even started testing it yet.  Bitching in general to anyone who would listen (heh) I learned for others that this is very common for them. I figured they saw Sig announce the scope at SHOT, grabbed the ad copy and plugged it into their e-commerce site, then sat back as the back orders piled up (with no clue when it would actually ship a year later or more). I cancelled the order and was so mad I went and got a Swarovski DS scope from another vendor (buy once. cry once... but that once is still a whimper at times).

I can't even imagine how much ammunition must be out there compared to 10 years ago.  I have a buddy that has a rather apocalyptic vision for the next few years- he has over 50K of 223 and over 30k of 9mm, and he's still buying.

Last week he picked up over a ton (yes, 2000 lbs) of ammo for himself and others- I guess he has a hookup with a high-volume producer.  He has asked me if I want to buy any, but it comes in lots of 1K.  I have plenty.  At least enough to get to where I can get more.   :bigok:

HE is one of the reasons for the shortage. I bet he scoops up bread and milk at the store when the forecast drops below 40ºF.  At least we can rest easy in knowing that, at least for him, he's not interested in serious calibers.

Does he have any 6.5 Creedmore he would let go of? Asking for a friend.

Hey Clay, if your buddy wants to get rid of a bulk box (1000 rds) of decent 9mm ball ammo, let me know.

I'll check. The only issue might be shipping.

I heard back from my youngest. My wise cracks kicked me in the butt this time. When she asked what I wanted for xmas, I told her 6.5 Creedmore ammo (I'm a wascally wabbit). I went around distributing presents to the different spawn where she gave me a very small gift bag with a note that everything is back ordered (duh... that was the joke) and that my gift would arrive when back orders are filled.

Oops.  :D

I managed to restock back in mid-summer 2020 at somewhat reasonable cost, but the difficulty finding anything made me stop using what I had.  Occasionally check some online shops for stock, but pretty much gave up with the preppers and insurrectionists buying everything in sight and tanneriting market prices.   :fitz:
