It's hard times now folks, but happy VE Day.

(mind you, my father had several months more fighting left).

My father was in a hospital back here in the states.  My mother was working as a nurse in a different hospital.  She did say that they did stop long enough have a celebratory drink before resuming their duties.  I know a lot of people ended up in church, and many were full all day.

Three days before my dad got tossed up into the air by a mortar in Germany. So he was in the hospital there and then transferred to the States.

This today... does not even compare.

Or better yet, think of what you might have lived through (maybe) had you been born in 1900.

A pathetic reminder of how far we’ve fallen.  Celebrating a victory over tyranny only to accept tin pot dictators saying you don’t have the right to assemble to protest, worship, etc. in the here and now.

Remember that London was getting carpet bombed.  We’re trying to slow the spread of an infection when the numbers show masks and social distancing is all that really works...not isolation at home and shutting down the economy.

My French colleagues are sad that they couldn't celebrate as it had been planned. VE means a LOT to them, as almost everyone's grandfathers fought and they passed the stories along to their kids and grandkids.

But they also understand why they can't join together at this time

No mention of if at all in these parts.  (Other than this thread)
