For 2021 national meet question
« on: May 08, 2020, 09:45:22 AM »
If, a national meet were to be held in 2021, where in the country would you pick to have said meet? i have favorites but want to see what the populace here would like. Also what time frame? What month, weekend , mid week to weekend, what?

June. WV.

I love riding in WV.

When we're staying down there, 33 between Harrisonburg and Seneca is a great out-n-back couple of hours when we can't do a whole day ride. We stay right in the middle of that, near Brandywine.

Now and then a fancy brunch at The Inn in Lewisburg is a wonderful half-day jaunt, too.

The problem is (I think) we have a cluster of active members in the mid-Atlantic and a cluster on the west coast, and a few in between. Hard to find a spot everyone can get to that provides good riding. Separate east/west gatherings would require less travel days to/from, but it'd nice to all get together somewhere cool in the middle again.

How about Eureka Springs again (site of the 2008 National)? That would blow a whole week (plus weekends) for most people. Three days each way to/from and three days there???

Yeah, that's a nice idea too.

Or maybe we just plan on two regional meets.

This is a big ass country, with not nearly enough in the middle to match what's at either end.

I enjoyed the Eureka meet back a dozen years ago- and hey, it's only 1600 miles from my place via superslab to get there!

Did I miss the spring meet?

I was under the impression Spring arrives mid-June in Stormtown.

We’ll be lucky if there is a Fall Meet this year.

Maybe I could clip the iPad on my Versys and we could do a virtual ride together.

I personally figure 2020 is dead. Better to look ahead enough that there is a chance of a meet with things open.

And it's only 1600 miles from San Diego.

I'd be more inclined to choose Eureka Springs.  The Black Hills are 1700 predominantly FLAT & BORING miles from eastern PA through some of the worst the rust belt has to offer, whereas Eureka Springs is 400 miles closer along the spine of the Appalachians.  I would definitely trailer out to South Dakota, and ride to Arkansas.  Either way I'm in IF it doesn't conflict with our personal travel plans.  The earlier we have a tentative date the easier for me to plan around it.

True that,I rode some tasty stuff out and back last time. I would also consider two other Arkansas locations, as they aren't bad either.

The ironic bit is that there are a lot of flat and boring (and unutterably hot) miles in those 1600 it takes to get to Colorado, too...

Eureka Springs would be cool - as much as I love WV (and I DO love WV), I've done it to death, both independently and in organized events.

I was looking back at past overnight events the other day.  Good times, good times.

2007 Burger Run, Clearfield - I meet STN folks for first time
2008 Burger Run, Clearfield - R Doug’s flat tire
2009 Burger Run, Clearfield - swingers convention happening at the Days Inn
2009 ESTN, Lake Placid - loaner BMW died on way up
2010 Burger Run, Clearfield - Kinzua dam group ride
2010 STN Campout, Seneca Shadows
2011 Burger Run, Clearfield
2011 STN Campout, Seneca Shadows
2012 Spring Meet, Boyer Station - Cannons and moonshine
2013 Spring Meet, Canaan Valley Resort
2014 Spring Meet, Hawks Nest SP.  Borrowed CB919 and CBR600RR(?)
2015
2016
2017 ESTO Sparta
2018 STO Campout, Seneca Shadows

From a timing standpoint, I like how the national was always set up in the middle of the week. I usually would make a week + ride out of it. I would take a few days to get there, attend the meet and have a few days to get back home. If it is on the weekend, that is pushing it to get down and back on an extended weekend. I'm game with either Eureka springs or CO being as i have not ridden in either. I would trailer out to CO if that is where it is decided to be. As Frank said, just too freakin flat and straight to get out there. As for summer or fall regional meets, I think it will probably come down to how it has been the last few years. Call it, and they will come.  :bigok:
