Bowflex Max Trainer M-7
« on: March 18, 2020, 10:16:20 AM »
I have a line on one of these really cheap.  Like pennies on the dollar cheap and barely used.  Research shows some good stuff.  In fact, most of what I've seen in the negative column are price and overkill for casual user.  Does anybody have one?  How is it?

Me too.  But a nearly new one for 100 bucks will make for a nice coat rack should I choose to go that route.  :)  It was 2199 new.

Have bought some exercise equipment.  Have a Bowflex a Leverage Machine and a Airdyne.  They all work well if you have a lick of self discipline.

So if you use the exercise equipment it works.  How about that.

Back on topic buy used for not full price if you don't need guilt to make you use it.   Always nice to have something to vary your workout.  Also helps you find more muscles to hurt.

Sometimes I almost think wow I will just work out on the Bowflex because it is easy.

Still hurts...but at my age some pain is expected.

no equipment taking up valuable space in the house or garage needed:

of course then you won't have any place to hang the hoses or laundry?
the above are merely the ramblings of a hamfisted fuckwit who has broken too many helmets.

Did the first getting to know you workout on it last night.  I still don't understand 2200 dollars but it's a nice piece of kit. Good burn, fairly intuitive, and nice and compact compared to an elliptical. Seems like a winner.  No clothes hanging on it yet.  But you know how I am about long term threads...

No brainer there. If you find your not using it you can easily flip it for more than you paid. I would think running up and down your power line hill would be an even better workout.  :o

Yeah, I did that for a while.  I paid the price in the tendons on the backs of my heels.  So, now the value in a similar cardio workout that doesn't literally tear things is extremely high.

I'm going to stick with the 14 minute program this week then next week try to switch to the 21 minute version with 12 intervals.   :o  Last night, I saw 170 on the heart rate monitor at one point.  According to my age, 170 is my max heart rate.  :)

The 14 min workout w/ an annoying announcer but at least the sweaty people aren't too hard to look at.

Day 9 of ownership. Just completed workout number 7 and the first 21 minute workout with 12 intervals. Whoof. I had to talk myself through those last 4. Says 396 calories burned. Ow

Might try it again later. 😬. You know you're bored when...

You can burn a significant number of calories just sleeping, OK maybe not as many as running but come on it's sleeping

Here is a quick table

Calories in calories out is not quite how your body works.  Burn 300 you can eat 300 is going to lead you down a bad path.

https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/theres-no-sugar-coating-it-all-calories-are-not-created-equal-2016110410602

Best example I could find on the short.

Really not for me to explain how to eat.  But keep in mind what we have been told for a long time is most of the problem.  Celery is better good fats would have been the best choice.  Granola and chips pretty much out, may as well dump whole wheat bread, another piece of crap we have been told.

Dump ALL breads, cereal, etc.  It’s great food for lots of calories in a small package.  Focus on protein, veggies and healthy fats.

Most of what we have been told about food is crap.  Independent research, and a LOT of it to weed out the truth, is the only way to learn what's really going on with food and your body.  If you have spent your life believing the advertising and trusting the sources, the truth is surprising and not delightful.

Figured you were on board with the food thing.   ;)

On a side note with my brownie & cookie lady in not baking and only eating my wife's home cooked food.   I have dropped 5 pounds with no changes and not feeling hungry.  Hate it when she is right...
