What bike do you most regret selling?
« on: March 14, 2020, 05:59:46 PM »
Inspired by a thread somewhere else, what is the bike that you owned that you miss the most?  What bike do you wish you still had?

I've owned a fair number of bikes over the years, and for the most part they come and go.  There are a couple, though, that I wish I still had.  Preeminent among these was my BMW K1200R.  That was na amazing bike, and I regret not keeping it.

I don’t regret selling any of them.
Each one allowed me to move onto something better.
I was happy to see them go to their new home
where they would be ridden and appreciated
just as I had.

1973 (I think) Kawasaki H2 750 Triple 2 stroke, Purple paint, dual disc front, chambers, rear sets with lowered bars. I got it from a friend of my mothers when her husband emptied the bank account/his closet and left her with the bills. I guess he could not take his track bike, as it was the only thing he left. She wanted it gone and I was happy to take it  :D. I was a kid and wish I knew what it was, all I knew it was faster than my buds KZ1000, had a narrow powerband and sounded a lot different than my other bike.

Miss that one

I had a purple H2 and a couple of the 500s as well.  I was happy to part with the lot of them.

KTM 950 SM-R. I loved that bike. So many great trips on it. I wanted to try adventure-touring. Didn't work out.  The SDGT is very nice, but I haven't bonded with it (yet) like the SM-R.

Sometimes I miss my old Ninja Bike (2005 ZX-6R) but I'm probably not quite as limber now as I was then. Fine bike though. Like a scalpel through the twisties. Probably the best looking bike I ever owned.

1964 Norton Atlas 750. Took me years to sort it out-when I got it, in 1982, it had all sorts of problems.  Gas flowed heads, balanced crank, TLS front brake, etc etc. Handled superbly. Top speed (timed) was 124 MPH. Took it everywhere.

But I was broke and needed money, so it was sold. Still miss it.

Second one was more recent, STN days, in fact. Triumph Thunderbird 900. Sold it for the same reason. I'd been made redundant and needed mortgage money.

Perhaps my CBR954.  But for the most part I don’t regret moving on. Occasionally I’ll think about one and wish I still had it, then I ride one and realize it wasn’t as great as I remembered?

This mostly.  Sometimes I regret the circumstances under which they moved on but for the most part, I trust my decisions to move on.

I connected most with the 05 FJR, after 2 different bikes, I'm back on one.

I did really love that Tenere though...

The FJR is an amazingly well-done package, and IMO, I think it comes together better than even Yamaha intended. Another of those "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts" kind of thing. Absolutely amazing machine, and continues to be one of, if not THE, best overall bike I've ever owned or ridden.

I learned how to wheelie on it.  I rode it from Wisc to TX, New Orleans and Fla.  With a duffel bag and bungee cords.
I was in the Air Force  - and I got orders to Japan.  I sold it thinking I'd pick up 'hot' bike that wasn't sold in the US... but found out that every bike there was 400cc or less due to licensing restrictions.

I agree, the FJR was and still is an amazing bike for the money. It's not the fastest or the quickest, it's bit top heavy but that engine... :inlove:

Tough question, right now, my 650 Versys. It was fun ,a totally capable cross country machine. Cheap to maintain, cheap to ride, comfortable, and low weight.. My old gen 1 connie would be second.
Don't get me wrong my new 1000 Versys is nice, and very capable. But it might be a little too capable. Its effortless to ride, and part of the fun was working that little V to make it go. Also the added weight is.......there on the 1000.

Exactly how I feel about the Wee.  You had to wring it's neck to keep up, but it never had a problem keeping up until you hit a decent straightaway.  It lacked top end but by that time you're already well into "arrest me" speeds.

My 1979 KZ1000 Mk. II. I miss that bike. I'm sure my  memories of it are tinted with rose colored glasses, but damn, the looks really worked for me. I dreamt of that bike in 79, and I still have dreams occasionally that I still own it, but i need to rescue it from a relatives garage, or my moms basement, or something. I  remember being so happy remembering I still own it, and when I wake up, I don't remember if I really do or not. (Not mine, but mine was the same color)

I wish I wouldn't have sold my Triumph Tiger 800 Roadie. It was comfortable and nothing wrong with it. I just wanted a sportier bike. I wish I would have kept it and added a sportier steed to the garage but we only had room in the garage and budget at the time for one. It eventually led me to my most favorite (current RS) so I cant be that mad.
