New Movie What Ya Seen?
« on: December 18, 2019, 10:21:51 PM »
Amazon has Joker on, being a batman fan I had to see it. Well going to the movies just did not work out for me so here comes Amazon prime and the firestick option (drop a few bucks and see it in your living room).

Ya I bought it (read as sucker getting his dopamine fix). Well I found it to be completely engrossing. The character development of Joker was twisted, and the undertones WOW.

As I watched the movie I almost could associate with the Joker (Ya it's a movie, your supposed to suspend reality). OK the guy comes for a really screwed up reality and as such so goes his sense of being grounded or not.

The movie has me wondering about the state of what reality means to each of us, and how we deal with the world around us based on what we have lived and experienced. Has what we perceive as the world in our own individual bubble, warped what we see as reality compared to the collective of society? and if so what is sanity in an insane society?   Maybe the question is, is being sane just the ability to coexist in the society that we live in?

ANYHOW I liked the movie  especially the staircase and following subway scene  8)

Wife and I went to see Knives Out last Saturday while it rained.  It was ok, but I think we were expecting more in the way of whodunit given the casting.  It's worth a watch, but not at theater prices.

The title always makes me think of the other movie, "Noises Off".

Very funny.

I can't really recommend the new JJ Abrams movie.  The whole thing about the dyad of the force was interesting, but otherwise it was a bunch of scenes strung together wishing it had a real plot.

Dead Carrie Fisher was disturbing.

I don't always watch new movies but when I do, they're already old.  :)  The last movie that I saw that had any impact on my memory was SEARCHING.  Disturbing in a sense but well done.

One of my friend's takes on Abrams is that he's a great director, but an absolutely terrible storyteller.  I have seen nothing of his work to dispute this statement.

Yes, it definitely was.

Star Wars: (whatever it was called)

We enjoyed it. I found several moments very poignant. I also saw it as VERY "Return of the Jedi-ish" (a stock-in-trade of Abrams is to make a "new" movie that is really just new special effects over the top of an old script).

Joker.

Wow. What a grabbing, engrossing, sad, and sweeping tale. To watch a pretty well crafted devolution from barely hanging on to full on embracing the darkness... whoofah.

I loved it.

We saw "Richard Jewell" recently and thought it was excellent. It's a shame what they put an innocent man and his family through.

Although I doubt that it will go over well to most members of this site.

Going in to that movie, I thought it was just going to be a Zombieland rip off - which wouldn't be the worst idea because I kinda loved that movie. But it was so, so much better than I was expecting, pretty much in every way and at ever turn. To the best of my knowledge, I've seen Adam Driver in exactly two roles; this and in Star Wars, and the radical differences between those two characters really added to his being in this movie. Fully recommend and I give it 4.5 out of 5 for just flat out enjoyability.

Have seen a few movies in the last week of so.

A Dogs Journey, sequel to A Dogs Purpose. Just like the first one, light, funny, heart warming and of course sad. If you don't get choked up watching these you either hate dogs or don't have a heart.

Terminator dark fate. This got terrible reviews but it was much better than I expected. Linda Hamilton did a good job bringing back Sarah Conner.

Zombie Land double tap. I enjoyed it but the first one was better. Watch till the end of the credits.

It's not a 3rd in the Brit Spy franchise but instead is a Brit Gangster Guy Richie movie.

As I was stuck in a metal tube hurtling through the atmosphere for 10 hours recently (twice), I have seen a few movies:

Anna - very good, would recommend (Luc Basson)
Rocketman - better than I expected, and a better-told story than Bohemian Rhapsody
Harriet - well done, interesting story about Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad
A Rainy Day in New York - interesting, better than other Woody Allen movies (but I don't like him, so take that for what its worth)
Lion King (new one) - only watched half of it, but did so just to be amazed at the animation
Judy - Dan watched this and said that it was very good

I know this'll largely just be seen as another leg-humping point made by anyone looking at the objectively hot Margo Robbie, but she really does have that x-factor something. She's just so damned *charming* in everything, including the psychopathic Harley Quinn. Even in straight dramatic roles, she's just eminently watchable.

I'm really enjoying it, despite its seemingly limited catalog; the ability to just pop on one of the marvel movies on a whim is a total win, too. Thor Ragnarock has tons of rewatchability for me, so it's always just a couple button pushes away.

Just watched "Won't You be My Neighbor" last night. Loved it but being from Pittsburgh, I was always a fan of Mr. Rogers (as most were). I loved how they intertwined things. The story line was not as I expected, which made me love it even more. I am HUGE fan of Tom Hanks and Matthew Rhys so I loved the acting side also.

A big fan of Clint Eastwood so I recently watched "The Mule" which was better then I anticipated.

It's not a movie, but For All Mankind series on Apple TV+. Alternate history where Russia beat us to the moon. Totally recommend it.
