Tool - Fear Inoculum

It's just OK.

Agreed, but then again I felt it has been all down hill since Undertow. Not to say they haven't put out some good music since, but Undertow resonated with me the most.

I've never been a big fan of heavy metal.  Rage Against the Machine has been one of the exceptions for me.

Yesterday, I was in the hifi shop and Fear Inoculum was playing in the demo room.  When I got home, I streamed the album on Tidal.  Given the feedback, I'm now listening to Undertow.  So far, I'm becoming a fan of Tool.

The funny thing is, I was relaxing to Tool yesterday afternoon before heading out to a symphony orchestra concert.  I love all sorts, I suppose.  :)

My queue in Tidal at the moment:

Tool:  Undertow
Amos Lee:  Spirit

I'll add one more to listen to.  After the listening session, I'll head to a new Ramen place downtown for dinner.  Life is good.

My tastes tend to lean to very heavy music and my guess is those tastes and opinions don't align with 99% of the people here. Although I like some mainstream music I really don't listen to it often and my tastes have become more extreme as I get older. I do like the complexity of Tools music and was a fan from the first time I heard them in the 90's. I really liked their originality and found they were so much different from anything that was out there at the time.

I do like some classical music though.  ;)

I can listen to classical, heavy metal ,blues, rock, whatever and be happy if its well done. My tastes really expanded when one of my life long friends and a riding buddy converted his bar into a music bar, with all types of acts performing there. He opened my mind to all the possibilities and we rode to various venues all over the US to see different acts, known and unknown. He retired and sold the place, but is still a bit of a legend in the Pittsburgh music scene. I gotta go to FLA and buy him a gin and tonic for the old days soon.

Best of Blue Oyster Cult

I went and saw Blue Oyster Cult in the '70's, one of the best live bands I've ever seen.

Saw BOC last year. Buck, and Eric are the only original members left, but they still kicked ass.

I'm a big fan of Tool.  I think my disappointment with Fear Inoculum is that it sounds like they took all the cut tape from 10,000 Days and stuck it on a new album, hoping no one would notice.  Maynard has been doing some really cool and interesting stuff in the last decade with Puscifer.  It's very spare, and from that perspective, Fear Inoculum felt over the top to me.  Additionally, all the tracks are 7 minutes or longer with 3 minutes of ideas.

Nathaniel Ratliff's new solo album "And It's Still Alright".  Stellar album.  A bit more introspective and low-key than his stuff with the Night Sweats.

:)  I played the hell out of that live album back when I had albums.

R.L. Burnside. Three chords, two bars, repeat. It gets you down the road.

And I think I know where the melody for the chorus in Butthole Surfers' Pepper came from.

I'll need to give this a listen.  I loved the albums put out by him and the Night Sweats, and SOB is a great introspective track.

Phil Keaggy, Jerry Marotta, Tony Levin. Very nice. One of those that I'd like to hear on R Doug's set up.

I'm not much of a Keaggy fan, but Levin and Marotta are among the very best.
