Existence by David Brin.  This is one of his sweeping sci-fi epics following multiple characters that all come together in the end books.

So a series? I see the first book but don't see others flagged as part of an Existence series.

It's standalone, AFAIK.  I just meant that that is the style of book he seems to write.  See Earth as a different example.

Just finished a 3 book series about first contact.  Don't know the details but it allows me to turn my brain off for long periods of time yet remain largely entertained.  Just started some dystopian series about post nuclear survivalist type stuff.  I don't read deep very often.

The Martian by Andy Weir.  The book the movie is based on.

WAY back when we had the STN sci-fi reading club we read that book.  At the time he (Andy Weir) had it for free on his website just to get his name out there.  I loved it so much I Facebook friended him and we chatted several times.

Then his book was bought, picked up for the movie, and he ended his personal Facebook account and started an author page.  Dude is cool.

The Cussler book I am reading now is not a novel but a historic ,in that it is telling of the exploration of ship wrecks and some of the history of the wrecks. Interesting ,and I never knew how many ship wrecks Mr Cussler has chased and explored.

I recently found Theodora Goss when I was shopping for books for my trip to Vienna. For some reason, a book entitled “European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman” caught my eye at that moment.

It’s a series that’s Frankenstein, Rappaccini's Daughter, Jekyll and Hyde, The Island of Dr. Moreau and Dracula all wrapped up with Sherlock Holmes. It’s very fun, though Holmes is just a side character. The first in the series is “The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter.”

Re-reading "Animal Farm".

I was surprised at how much of, "Animal Farm", I'd forgotten. I think everyone remembers the highest points of the story because they have seeped into the collective consciousness. Things like "All animals are equal but some are more equal than others."

We easily forget the progress of their form of government. They were easily lead and distracted. Enemies were named and renamed as fitted the accumulation of power by the pigs. What was an enemy became a friend, then an enemy again. Also, the inviolate "rules" of Animal Farm were bring re-written under cover of darkness while mouthpieces for the government went around assuring people that they were mis-remembering the original rule.

Educated by Tara Westover.  True story as far as she can remember. Bit of an eye opener.

Just finished Hour Game, by David Baldacci.  I'm a fan ( of sorts), and I know they're kind of cheesy, but I find his books entertaining. There's a used bookstore in Manassas I discovered years ago, which isn't far from where  Mini Jr. lives. I make it a point to stop there every time I visit him-the paperbacks are mostly $0.15- $0.35 so I stock up. I think I still have about seven more Baldaccis to read, then on to my collection of Tom Clancys.
