40th BDay trip up north-Need Suggestions
« on: September 07, 2019, 04:21:45 PM »
I am planning a trip this October up the CA and OR coast, over to Eugene, down through Cater Lake, and lastly through Lassen NP. This will be a Sat-Sat, 2-up trip. We want to sight see and enjoy the ride together.

Any must see items (other than Avenue of the Giants) that we MUST do up the coast?

Thanks for any suggestions.

The only suggestion I have is to take a ride out to shelter cove near Ave of the giants. Amazing views, and when we were there we had the beach to ourselves.

I don't know, that's all I got.

But I really like my job so that's most likely not going to happen.

We were going to stay there but it made it too far for my pillion on day 2 to our next destination. Maybe we will just do a pop in.

There is a series of numbered beaches on the Oregon coast somewhere. Super cool. I found a sort of zen on Ruby beach just exploring the rocks and logs and sitting near the water and just feeling the rocks. Some of the most perfectly round peaceful rocks. Sounds weird but man it was peaceful.   No mushrooms needed.

highway 36 is incredible but it's an east-west road so hard to factor into your north-south trip.  You can use it to get to Lassen though.  Just riding highway 1 through the Mendicino area makes the whole trip worth it.

CA96 from Willow to Happy Camp, then Greyback/Indian Creek Rd to O'Brien, OR is on your route and is quite entertaining.

If it weren't for the therapeutic properties of the occasional off-camber decreasing radius downhill right-hander I'd almost certainly go completely sane.

Cookie, there's no need for Doc to take a bag of shrooms.  They are readily available almost anywhere in Oregon.

Seriously, though, my best recommendation is stop for chicken sandwiches by the Uof O: https://www.yelp.com/biz/cart-de-frisco-eugene

Do it.

Also, Crater Lake is worth a detour.

Yes, this.  Watch out for a left on Grayback near the Oregon border that is a lot tighter than it looks.  I ended up tipped over in the gravel there a few years ago.  When I got the bike upright, I saw the area was littered with Other People's Motorcycle Parts.

There's a treehouse hotel http://www.treehouses.com/joomla/ in Cave Junction if 96 and Grayback leave you sapped at the end of the day.

Lost Coast. Bumpy, nasty road but still interesting to see that people do live out there.
