So I hang out with a bunch of interesting people. Every two weeks, we meet at the local Irish pub for food, drink, and bench racing. One of these characters is Ken. Another one is Erik. There are others, but this is not their story. Ken and Erik are like Felix and Oscar as far as vehicle projects go but they will do anything for each other.

So yes, Ken has a Norton. Fitted with a nitrous bottle. And he took it with Erik's help to the AMA speed trials at Bonneville last week. Ken is 77. But he seems younger. And then... well there's more. Here's a link to Ken's thread:

Scroll up. Or start at page 1.

You're welcome.

I'll respond with my usual comment on stories like this one: "I sure hope I'm that fast and ambitious when I'm 77 because I'm sure not that fast or ambitious now."

Whitehorse Gear is getting out of the publishing business and I'm closing out remaining stocks of my book. Now just $10, personally signed and shipping is free in the U.S.

this is the thing a lot of people don't realize about the salt flats. It isn't like the highway. first of all it is at a decent elevation (4,200'), second it is usually hot. Both things that rob power, specially from smaller engines. Then there is the surface. it is slippery! just riding out to the spectator area on my CBR a twist of the throttle in 3rd gear at 30mph resulted in the wheel spinning. I think the top level guys have wheel spin down to around 10% so when people say "I've done 150 on my XXX out on the road" it's not the same thing at all.

Yes, it is a hostile environment. The chain started to rust while they were there.

Good for him. He'll do it again. And go faster. It's never a one time deal with landspeed racing.

Don't believe I'll ever run Bonneville. I prefer the concrete and asphalt venues that are closer to me not to mention sea level. Drag racing a nitro bike in the early '90s cured me of beating my head against a wall.

There's the old water heater with wheels with fireworks on it......the trebuchet discussion to launch a mannequin (well the headless torso) across the river bed.... and so on.

Drag racing a nitro bike in the early '90s cured me of beating my head against a wall.

Drag racing a nitro bike often has the side effect of beating someone's head against a wall.
Nice to know there's a cure. More nitro racing wouldn't have been my first guess, but if it works...
If it weren't for the therapeutic properties of the occasional off-camber decreasing radius downhill right-hander I'd almost certainly go completely sane.
