Move to NC.  If there is any snow at all everyone freaks the F out and everything is closed until it melts.  Or farther south.  I'm from SC and only remember it snowing once as a kid.  Maybe twice.

fuck N. Carolina.
Not hating yourself over the cold for most of the year might kill you.   :P

I can handle it.
Clearly you can't.

Seemingly not -- see your pissy lil rant above, and your Prius.
We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Ive had it with the cold.
Its been so fucking cold they aren't even blaming Canada.  Usually, the "Canadian air mass" is the culprit for it dropping into the 20's.  They like to use this Canada bullshit in the fall too, like when it's still 70 and beautiful out but next week watch out-"The Canadian air mass" is coming...
It was 6 this morning.  6.
Now its ARTIC AIR  causing all the cold.
As i'm waiting for my body to finally give in and succumb to the flu after fighting it since goddam Halloween, it occurred to me that I have virtually no positive memories of cold weather.  Sure, I remember a few Christmas mornings and shit like that but for the most part-nothing.  This means I pushed this stuff back in my head.  Nov-April pretty much sucks weather-wise, I blocked half my life.  Maybe this is the key to why i'm crazy; i've been suppressing half my life all these years.  My emotional age is 20.  Explains a lot. ;)
I was watching "House Hunters Hawaii" and wondering wft i'm still doing here??  They wear shorts and flip-flops all year round.
as much as I hate the cold I was hoping "The Big Game" got hit with sub-freezing temps and high winds.  I was hoping it got so cold Bruno Mars literally collapses and dies on stage and the Chili Peppers have to gut him and get inside his still warm corpse to survive like Han Solo did in "Retun of the Jedi".    Fuck NY for building a BILLION DOLLAR stadium and leaving the roof off.  I mean, seriously?  What would it have cost?  Another 10 million for the roof?  assholes.
And fuck New Jersey.
Doesn't Atlanta have a domed stadium?  Fuck you Atlanta.
the cold should stay where it belongs-those square states in the Midwest.

This just made my day.   :rolf:  Don't forget about the "truck"- you know, the Avalanche?

Avalanche?   One of the better decisions I've made in my life.  2007, a banner year for General Motors.  I can imagine the phone call down to El General Motors de Mexico explaining how the company is going out of business unless the govt bails them out.  " Better cut as many corners as you can to save money.  Start with the Avalanche line" they surely said.   The big boss, Pedro, really ran with the corporate orders and built a top notch piece of shit.  Sadly, he lost his job and now works for Ford.
Fuck GM.

Federal tax return: 1 page, tax tables in the instructions done in 10min. Getting a grand back.

State tax return: 4 pages, tax tables in a completely separate document you have to look for, original form doesn't work, and I owe them $86.

The kicker: I work for this state.

The beauty of this flat tax state.  It takes longer to find the website to file than it does to file.

They told my department (pack/ship) that we were not "value added" employees and because of this we would be held at our pay grade. Great motivators.

Oh I get it. It would be nice if there was actual recognition of the Department though. Seems odd that 3 of the 4 Departments are recognized in the All Hands. Makes me not want to attend the next one.

I quit going to those about 4 years ago.  I have to go this year due to a 10 year 'service' award. At the 5 year mark you get a silver ring. Ordered the largest size available so I could get the maximum amount for 'melt' value.

Company All Hands meeting yesterday. Employee of the year, Presedent's Leadership Award. Department One; Great Job on getting those sales, getting contracts. Department Two; Great job on 700 projects completed, conversion from licenses to services (one time sale to recurring revenue). Department Three; Great job working with the government. Okay, great year, lots of good stuff coming.

Thank You and drive safe!

Hmm, no mention of Department Four, Operations. No thanks for the completion of 1,300 projects. No thanks for the deployment of large systems on time.

We don't make sales. We make things work. We keep systems running.

We are unimportant.

We are not bitter.

Carl

operations is always the necessary evil and we rarely get credit. on the other hand we usually get all the $$ we need and we are the hero's when the shit hits the fan. once you get used to it it's all good :)

sounds like you work for a company that's run by the sales guys (is the CEO ex-sales).

many companies I've worked for have a fairly royal attitude about operations and infrastructure . . . "If I begin to sit, someone will place a chair under my ass" kinda thing.

I am no longer bothered by it . . . who I am, and my value isn't as strongly connected to work as once was the case . . . .

I trade expertise for money and benefits. I am sitting in our town hall as part of Day 1 activities. After many years of being the acquirer my company is now the acquiree. Same, but different.

After 22 years at the same employer I have just started to move in this direction, I think it is a very good direction to move in ;)
