I rented 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' to chill out at home since I don't go out after dark on St Pattys Day...
What a collage of WTF.
First, it should have been named 'Three Billboards'
No real character development, which led to no empathy
The plot seemed to be guessing what the plot was meant to be
There were a couple of points in the movie where the timeline was jumped without notice
I could go on, but I won't dignify it with any more
I looked it up on the internet afterwards...
It's (supposedly) a 'dark comedy'
A comedy about; rape, murder, maternal angst, injustice, domestic violence, religion, racism, arson?!?!?
Then I found, it was written, directed and produced by one person.   Something I abhore.
And, that person is a Londoner.  Conveing his concept of small town America.

I came in a few minutes early today and am working through lunch so I can leave work 15 minutes early with zero guilt so I can be AIS at 4 pm for "Captain Marvel." It's $5.50 Tuesday and free popcorn with your ticket! Review to follow...
I used to make a bigger impression.

So...Captain Marvel.

I LOVED IT.

If the movie's agenda was to be highly engaging and entertaining from start to finish so much so that I never looked at my watch once and I was disappointed that it wasn't longer, then put a big, fat check mark next to that because it hit that nail on the head!

If the movie has any other agenda(s), I didn't go looking for them, they didn't hit me over the head with them, and I give zero fucks about other agendas.

I wanted an MCU movie. I got an MCU movie.

I also got Cap still with his beard in the mid-credit scene...MOTHEROFGOD.  :inlove:

I loved the movie. Period. End of story. Five pineapples out of five.

Speaking of Thor, I'm listening to the Neil Gaiman book, "Norse Mythology" that is read by the author.

VERY GOOD!

That I'm listening to it just as season 2 of American Gods has kicked off (again by Neil Gaiman) is cool.

Yesterday I figured out why his reading reminded me of someone else. He sounds a lot like Alan Rickman but a half-tone higher and a fewer wpm.

I freaking LOVE "Strange Planet."

Did everyone see the run time for Avengers Endgame was announced at 3 hours, 2 minutes? Your choices are dehydration, adult diapers, or the RunPee app. Choose wisely!

We go to an IMAX theater with big leather chais that have a subwoofer in each one. 3 hours is fine. Pee first and bring bottles of water in.

Really?!? NO ONE has chimed in on Avengers: Endgame yet?!?

I give it 🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍 out of 5!!! I freaking loved it. I could have walked out of the theater and right into another showing of it. I'm going to let tomorrow's Bargain Tuesday pass, but I'll probably see it a second time next Tuesday once the students have left for the summer. $5.50 ticket AND free popcorn AND three hours with Chris Evans again? YES, PLEASE. I cried several times, including all through the credits...I couldn't stop! I think the finality of it was just too much for me.

Not seen it yet. My brother came over late yesterday and theaters are still sold out except for earlier (before he got here).

I am concerned that we are at the end of the Golden Era with this arc finishing and Disney getting their meat hooks into the IP. Wreck It Ralph 2 has swaths of scenes that are nothing less than Disney whacking us upside the head to remind us of all the IP they now control.

Me too.

My recommendation? If they serve drinks or meals, order something. You'll need the napkin.

Hours afterward, I caught myself reflecting on the end of MCU: Phase 3.

Something like 22 movies over 11 years, all moving in coordination toward this finale.

I remember being in grade school in the 60s and running around playing Marvel super heros with other kids on the block. Only in my dreams was even one serious attempt with a good budget possible.

Standing O, Marvel. Thank you for the lifetime of memories Stan, Jack, Steve D, and Avi.

Saw "Endgame" for a second time. Tuesdays are "bargain Tuesdays" - $5.50 for any movie, plus a free 46 oz. popcorn. (It's not as big as it sounds, but it's just enough.) (That's what she said.)

Picked up on a few things that I must have missed the first time due to surrounding laughter or sniffles, depending on the scene. One thing I thought I picked up on turned out to be something I've missed for the last five years, LOL. I guess it debuted in "Age of Ultron." Oops. Oh well...whatever. It was still cool albeit five years old.

Was thoroughly entertained by the two college-aged guys in the row in front of me. It was clearly their first viewing. When Captain America does that thing where he gets the thing...they damn-near came out of their seats! HILARIOUS. And they weren't play acting...their responses to other scenes were ones of genuine surprise and other appropriate emotions.

Only cried twice this time (cried five times the first time). Spent a good amount of time ogling Captain America when he was on screen. Chris Evans is a beautiful man.

Still six pineapples out of five. Would see again. And very well might.

Although for some demented reason, that stupid Pikachu movie has me intrigued for the weekend. We'll see...
I used to make a bigger impression.

Also saw it for the 2nd time (first was alone and the next was with family).

NOT A SPOILER
I missed that Hawkeye had a ankle monitor the first time. I'm still not sure why.

Still got the sniffles throughout it. MY daughter said she cried many time and for many reasons. Right now, thinking about Cap is causing my allergies to act up.

3 hours only seemed long to my tailbone. The show itself never lagged and it gave room for the actors to breathe. Lots of character development and acting. It didn't sacrifice anything for CGI action scenes.

So many people for so many years all working together toward this end goal and doing it so successfully. WOW!

When I was a kid, I could only imagine a day when ONE big budget Marvel movie done seriously MIGHT happen. The closest we got was when Cap had a dirt bike, a bendy plastic shield, and a baggy costume. Never could I have hoped for the MCU and it's most excellent journey.

I hope that Disney doesn't ham-hand the legacy it's been given like they did with Wreck it Ralph 2 (the scenes where Disney shoved all it's IP down our throats to remind us who owns what).

For those that have seen Endgame.  Without giving away spoilers, can you identify key points that would be suitable lull points for one to seek some pressure relief?  Three hours could require at least one, maybe two trips

I honestly can't think of anything I'd be ok missing, even on a rewatch. The thing is a total ride.

Maybe the at-the-headquaters chat twixt Scarlett J. and Cap. Maybe his whole scene wiht the support group just before that.

Hmm... Maybe the Lebowski scene, and leading just up to it. It's... busy-work stuff, but still enjoyable.

Maybe once the crew hits Morag; it's fundamentally a replay of the first few minutes of Guardians 1.

John Wick 3: Fast action. We know that from 1 & 2. 3 takes up fro where 2 left off (so a review of 2 wouldn't be misspent time). My brother and I left satisfied and looking forward to a 4.

Chernobyl should be required watching.  As one who earned his living in the nuclear world, I know the fallacy that the NRC is watching and protecting us. Ten years after the "incident " at Fukushima, millions of gallons of irradiated water are still being poured into the ocean....and who cares?  This is real scary shit, people.

We were going to cancel HBO after the game of thrones finale but have gotten hooked on Chernobyl. Very interesting show. Fukushima gets brought up at our house probably monthly.
