I didn't know what to say.
« on: January 13, 2014, 07:16:12 PM »
A guy I work with came up with a 'great' idea for his son's 22 birthday. Put a 22lr on a chain for him to wear. He drilled a hole in it (I did it slowly he said), emptied the powder out, and put a chain through it. So far so good, right? Well his son turned 24, so he decided to do the same thing with a 243. He thought the cartridge was to big, and after drilling a hole through it, he decided to cut it in half, and grind the base down to remove the rim and solder it back together.

He grabbed the base with some pliers, and during the grinding process (you know this was coming, right?) the primer ignited, passing partially through his ring finger and half way through his pinky. 5 hours in the emergency room the primer casing was removed from his finger, and now his son has a chain with more 'sentimental' value.

"I thought the primer had to be hit with something to go off."

I didn't know what to say.

That's alright, I laugh myself sometimes, not a whole lot else you can do.
