How do they even have the power to take away your license? They didnt issue it.

Fucking cops.

They don't but they do have the right to revoke your driving privileges in that state.  You can pay to play or not go back, your choice.

And that is the legislature and motor vehicle department, not the cops.  And I was was one of those fucking cops for 26 years.

Working nights, weekends and holidays to keep people safe.  I pulled people outta lakes & rivers, did CPR on kids and grandmas and arrested child and wife abusers.

SO FUCK YOU ASSHOLE

Wow dude that's pretty harsh.

Is he gone yet?

Back in the day a Marine officer at the time in his brand new 1979 Corvette passed Radar Hill near Quantico and saw no LEO's.  I was having an engine issue, dropped into second and took off up to over 120mph.  Several minutes later I saw the bubble gum machine flashing over a mile behind.  I pulled over.  The Trooper said "I don't know how fast you were going but you were flat leaving me."  He went on to tell me how VA is the Communist State in reference to it being a Commonwealth.  We had a cordial conversation and I got a $45 ticket for exceeding the speed limit.  Just a story about how not all cops are assholes.
It isn't the destination; it's the ride.

Holy Crap! I don't visit for a while and this place turns saucy!

My MK "A" school was in Yorktown, so I would visit my parents in Mars, PA quite often on the weekends. All of us knew not to put out our radar detectors until leaving VA. In fact, during our indoc class, the instructors specifically told us not to speed because the state and local cops "do not like you and won't let you off with a warning." More and a few of the students tested that theory and lost.

Even all the years living in the SE driving home, I get through VA as quickly and without incident as possible.

However, I think it's a gorgeous state with a lot of history and I would love to ride more roads in it. We are probably going to try for the DC area next anyways, so I'm in trouble. I will most likely contribute to the state revenue after living out in CA.
A straight road never made a skilled rider.

RK was under control by two women officers until the good old boys showed up and told the little ladies to leave this to us.  Internal investigations showed there were two training programs at the academy. One for when the women were there and one when they were not..  I got this direct form a CHP officer I worked with.

Because in the real world, cops are just people, and have families and bills and people counting on them, and losing their jobs or walking away from their jobs for not following orders is dumb.

Which is another reason to consider when someone tells you that cops are people and won't take part in door-to-door confiscation of personal property if ordered to do so.

Sure it is.  If Doug's boss asks him to do things at his job that (while they may not be illegal) they are unethical than we'd be telling him to look for another job.

So why can't we apply the same standard to any other profession?

That doesn't make it the cop's *fault*.

It's also shitty, but it's not strictly unethical, and it *is* within the bounds of the law.

And a cop's gotta feed his family.

He has the option of leaving the job if he believes that strongly.

I'm pretty sure about .0001 percent of the population believes *ANYTHING* that strongly.

So... in the real world where people have careers, goals, time spent building said career, it's... impractical... to consider such things.

So what part of this job is unethical?  Has anyone here looked in to what, if any funds, come back to the State Police in NC?  I know my former agency saw a very small portion come back and it was automatically redirected to an education fund.  Something I know many VA agencies did, or were doing.  We, as riders, always bitch and moan about dumbass cage drivers out here and when a LE agency announces they'll be out there in an attempt to make the roads safer some turn it into a conspiracy.  You people are hard to figure out sometimes.

Why don't they just install speed cameras like they have in England? A few cities around here installed red light cameras but of course the conspiracy people said they decreased the yellow light timing to catch more people. Some school zones have speed cameras. I think they're a great idea and it frees up the police from sitting there watching for speeders and puts them in the community where they can do some good.

meh, maybe it's just personal experience. I'll drive across the state for Thanksgiving, I'll set the cruise on 84, I'll pass a half dozen highway patrol cars, none of them will give me a second look. therefore I won't think about conspiracies, ethics, the man, whatever.  ;)

so for those who think this is some sort of travesty, what exactly is your bitch? you think traffics laws are unnecessary?  or you just don't want them enforced? or you want some other type of penalty than monetary? I guess I'm not following the logic here?

Why don't they just install speed cameras like they have in England? A few cities around here installed red light cameras but of course the conspiracy people said they decreased the yellow light timing to catch more people. Some school zones have speed cameras. I think they're a great idea and it frees up the police from sitting there watching for speeders and puts them in the community where they can do some good.

They've installed a red light/speed camera near our regional hospital. Guess who gets caught speeding/running the red light? Emergency personnel, nurses, doctors rushing to their posts.

I'm not saying they should speed or run red lights but your average LEO would probably give them a break, while the machine won't.
Ride safe!

Christinabox. You lot carry on about unfair speeding tickets and I have to worry about Brexit and the far right.

We just have different priorities, ma'am.
Why would I wait till I die to come alive?
I'm ready now
I'm not waiting for the afterlife
