We're nestled in at the Ibis Hotel Blackfriars. Here through Friday. I think we're free most evenings. Would love to meet and grab a pint. I do not have a car, so we're looking at the tube, Uber, or you coming in to town, or some meeting point where Uber / the tube can get us. :)

Yeah, sadly. We're heading out Saturday AM. Right now I'm sitting in Fuller's Sanctuary House pub working, and enjoying a little taste of home(-ish) with a Sierra Nevada after lunch.

For a country that invented the ipa they SUCK at making them. :) there was no scotch ale to be had here. All weak sauce lagers and something that passes for a pale ale.

I think you have your history wrong. The true IPA was invented here in San Diego.

Surely you can find a pub with better selection.  Maybe not as convenient, but walking around counts as good exercise

Just googled them   Looks like they have a dozen domestic brews on tap.  There's gotta be one..

PAH! Next time, for sure.

As for the beer choices, Brew Dog in Bristol had the best local beer I've had so far. Straight up impressive good stuff.

In London so far, all I've found are a few typical things, and some bland locals. Finding the Sierra Nevada was a nice hold over. I have little time for walking around the city; this is a working vacation for me. The evenings are mine, mostly, but by the time Liz gets done various performances and rehearsals, and the cat-herding shit-show that is 30 hungry, sweaty, thirsty musicians under armed guard in The Abby get out in the open, they want food and drink like RIGHT F---ING NOW, and exploring takes a back seat. :)

For a quick bite, there's Pret A Manger around the corner from the Conrad St. James about 3 blocks from the Abbey.
We liked the menu at Jamies Italian,  It's about 1 km from Westminster Abbey on Victoria.
About halfway in-between is the Albert pub.  mediocre beer selection, decent burger, but the building itself is a sight.
If you're up to walking across Westminster Bridge, we liked the Slug & Lettuce County Hall (between the Park Plaza & the Eye) it has a really nice menu and not too expensive.
Just sayin' ENJOY

....

I think APA and IPA are different. The US IPA is ... much hoppier. If that's your definition of 'suck'.

Besides. Drink an ESB. :)

Pretty much everything I went to the UK (which was monthly  for a while) I choose to eat Indian.
 Go have a nice vindaloo...
You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack  -You may find yourself in another part of the world
You may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile- You may find yourself in a beautiful house with a beautiful wife-
You may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?

The Indian food I had was top notch. Totally stand out.
There's a pub in London called The Anchor and Hope. If you're in london, just go there. Take the taxi, uber, tube, whatever.... trust me. It's worth it. Daily changes to the menu. It looks like a divey pub, but dear god, the food... the food.
Hit up a Brew Dog. Snacky stuff and actual good beers.
Also, there's this little tapas place right at Southwark station, at the end of a little street that was.. ungodly good.
Tas, the turkish place was straight up wonderful.
PWH on Blackfriars' Road - cheap and very good.

Also, regarding the beer thing... the IPA was invented in England because hops are a natural preservative, so they over-hopped the beer so it would survive the 4-6 month trip on sailing ships. American IPA is a pale cousin to the original IPAs back in the day. What they're calling IPA in England these days is... Just not.

You are not living until you have one foot in the Western Hemisphere and one foot in the Eastern hemisphere while you are enjoying a pint.
