Yanni vs Laurel
« on: May 17, 2018, 09:44:40 PM »
I'm sure many of you have heard this, but for those who haven't it's one of those brain things.  Do you hear "Yanni" or "Laurel" in the video?
! No longer available

I started classes with this today:  the first time I heard it without a doubt I heard "Yanni", the second class I heard "Laurel", and now I hear "Laurel" every time.  Fun stuff.

Laurel. First and always. Fight me.

Actually, I wish someone had played it first and asked what I heard, instead of pre-programming one or the other? What if I heard "yacht" or "fishwobblermangrove"?

It's just a weird thing because of missing some frequencies; if you hear yanni (on a full bandwidth speaker), you have hearing loss. Period. End of story.

This vid would suggest the opposite:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDiXQl7grPQ

Those with hearing loss (difficulty hearing higher frequencies) will hear Laurel. Those without hearing loss will hear Yanni because they're picking up the higher frequencies.

Per my hearing person, I have the expected amount of high frequency loss for my age meaning I have a harder time hearing women :D :D :D

Yup. M.Brane and I have an inside joke that has me coming into his studio to talk to him, realizing he's not listening, and going 'blah blah blah blah'. He hears that just fine and smiles. If I really need his attention, I have to touch him and make him look at me. His ability to ignore me focus is amazing.   ;)

Yeah, I think that you got it the wrong way, chornbe. Those of us with young, healthy ears hear Yannie, while those like Dan who have faulty, defective hearing can only hear Laurel.   8)

At home, on the stereo (decent stuff)  YAmmi,  in the car (2015 Hyundai sonata), laurel.

I think the playback gear is the key.

YMMV.
