This kid uses one on his cart and states it works really well in downpours for his usage in go-cart racing.

Interestingly, I had a friend who raced Formula Ford back in the late 70's and early 80's.    He and his car were middle of the pack at best in the huge field at the annual SCCA runoffs at Road Atlanta.  One year it was pouring rain and he had one of those or something very similar on his helmet.   He finished top five and credited the spinner for his results.  He claimed that everyone else, except the guy leading the race, couldn't see and had to slow down, drive with one hand, remove their face shields, etc. due to the rain and the water flying off the open wheels.   It was his best finish by far in the runoffs.
