Looking for an Android coder... anyone here?
« on: February 25, 2018, 10:06:49 AM »
Looking for a currently-skilled Android developer for a small, simple application.

Skills required:
* modern android development tools and practices
* local device storage management
* REST API calls with token based auth
* comfortable with flow layout in UI
* various frameworks typical to modern Android apps

You'll be given all the UI assets and guidance, and it must adhere to a small but fairly rigid set of UI rules.
You'll need to sign a standard NDA before discussing it much beyond basic requirements.
You'll be paid as a 1099 contracted resource on this project. Future project work and/or employment is absolutely likely.
You'll need to work on a fairly short time line, but the project isn't a huge one.
You'll need to be in frequent contact for updates, and to provide APKs for testing.

I don't have time for egos and "better ideas", or for clever solutions. This app project is small, tightly focused, with a small but very focused and precise feature set.

I don't have time to code both the iOS and Android versions in the timelines necessary and frankly, I need more help and backup as I'm the classic case of "If Chris gets hit by a bus..." right now.

Anyone here...? Referrals ok too, and I think I can get a few bucks out of them for a decent referral fee if that helps. We *might* ask you to come to Wilmington for some face to face chats, but that's not really any sort of a hard requirement at all.

Up sides: work when and where you want, as long as we can reach you and get frequent updates from you. You'll report to me! :D

Down sides: None, really. Signing and adhering to the NDA is not even a little bit negotiable, and one of the partners is our lawyer, so... don't try to screw us and steal our crappy ideas! :)

Well I guess if I can't steal your ideas, it's not worth it.

I have no idea how to code so stealing your ideas was really my only option, but don't worry about me I will keep looking for an easie mark
Till the morning comes, it'll do you fine.
Till the morning comes, like a highway sign,
Showing you the way, leaving no doubt,
Of the way on in or the way back out.

I write Java, but it's all Java SE / Swing (desktop apps). No experience with Android. Good luck on your search. It shouldn't be hard to find an Android developer.

 Here's hoping. I'm really gun shy after some hires a few years back that were... not up to general standards, but boy oh boy, could they reinvent some "clever" wheels with 10x more code than is necessary.

Thanks, Garry. If you hear of anyone, even if they're looking for a side gig, happy to have the chats.

Thanks!

Both of my sons are now working for gaming companies that crank out mobile stuff (Jam City and Riot, respectively). Neither codes but they know lots of coders. Want me to send this their way?

I wish I did. Where do you go to learn this stuff? I did watch an episode of 'code monkeys' once.

Where am I?

Sometimes, you just have to get closer to the metal. And as often as Trigger and Ionic - yet more front ends for Cordova - change their shit, the more often I have to refactor.

Also, HTML looks like bucketed ass compared to native UI classes.
