What I want in a bank...
« on: February 09, 2018, 12:24:42 PM »
I hate banks. I'm currently with CapitalOne-360, and they're so very, very close to exactly what I want. Here's a list of things they and all banks could still do better.

* Do NOT process ANY incoming transaction if there's not enough money in the account to do it. Ever. Not ACH. Not point of sale. Not scheduled outgoing. NOTHING. If I'm not set up for overdraft, then STOP.

* NEVER take my account negative during a normal transaction. (tips, or modified, previously-posted transactions are a different matter)

* Let me memo-post outgoing paper checks as line items that affect my available balance. (cap-1 used to do this but that feature went away when they revamped their website)

* Yes, paper checks. They're still a thing.

* Do NOT take three days to process a simple bank to bank transfers.

* Allow higher ATM limits, like some credit unions and banks do with a call-in request.

* If I resolve a negative-balance issue the same day, don't charge me for it as pretty much all banking is (still, like dinosaurs) done in overnight batch processing anyway.

* Don't compound certain fees. Cap-1 does NOT do this, but a couple years back PNC put me over $700 in the negative with $35 fees while I was traveling, and I didn't notice until I returned home. Some automated transaction came in and there wasn't quite enough money to cover it. They took me negative to honor the transaction  then hit me with a "went negative fee", then immediately hit me with a "you're negative fee", then did the same for everything else for a couple days, including bouncing *some* transactions, but honoring others with no rhyme or reason, all the while hitting me $35 for each one. I literally lost over $700 in like 2 days from this bullshit... all because of an automated ACH they honored that they shouldn't have.

* Maybe offer a no-cost or low-cost savings account that ISN'T a *(#&*)*@*#&& transaction-limited money market or other "investment vehicle" type of account. Oy.

I see you've visited Humboldt County.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation.

Gosh, thanks. Most of those issues are from a few years back when my pay check was about $400 ever two weeks when my support nut was about $4800/month, and it never reached my bank at all, then things like car insurance and such were automatic ACH withdraws. I wasn't "spending what I didn't have" so much as "we need to do ach withdraws because your credit is a bucket of ass and we don't trust you to make a payment". That kind of shit happens when your ex-pending steals $45,000 in mortgage money, then willfully tosses the house away in foreclosure, after going against court order and NOT paying your car payment from the support as it's a joint asset, and it gets taken away, too.

But don't you think it's a good policy to NOT pay an ACH request when the account has like $4 in it? I mean, isn't that a good policy that the bank should just, I dunno, have a standard normality on? Wouldn't you think that if they'll deny a point of sale request for not enough funds, the same should apply to ACH transfers?

Credit Union.

Your credit union will probably honor an ACH for $100 if you have $50 in the account, then take you negative. ACH is a shit system and very few banks disallow draw-negative ACH requests. :(

oh, I've been through the whole fucked over by the ex thing. lost 2 houses and a lot at the local ski area, then was informed that while the divorce decree is legally binding for my child support it isn't for her to refinance the house so I'm responsible for that payment unless I want my credit to go to shit. then she sold the lost that was supposed to be sold to put the kids through college and used the money to quit working for 2 years,, so ya, I get the life sucks sometimes deal. I just don't see how its the banks fault, but opinions vary. Hope you find a bank that works for you.... I've said more than necessary already so I'll shut up now ;)

+Whooo If ya got your $$ in a bank I have to ask you are you awake?

As I see it you got only a few options to sow the seeds
1. Market
2. Bonds
3. Property
4. Cash

#1 and 3 are volital
#2 depends on who is issuing
#4 is just a bad bet, hack it does not even keep up with inflation, with the cheep cash on the market why not use it?
Freedom without regulations that protect the general good is nothing less than anarchy by the rich.
