It's tough to read. It's a historical marker for the town of Sutterville, CA. Set up in 1844 about 3 miles from the docks of Sacramento. Had one of the 1st brick structures built in California in 1847. It was eventually annexed as Sacramento grew and became the state capital in 1850. It was also the site of Camp Union during the Civil War and used as a training ground for the California Volunteers.

Now an office complex and William Land Park cover the former town site.

I sat around for an entire cup of coffee to try and catch the bridge up. There is some interesting graffiti underneath.

Stay tuned......

It's not a cart but it's definitely portable.

The only riding I'll be doing today will be to the auto parts store.

I gotta be honest.  In my first day ride of the summer (ugh ) I almost bruced you- I didn't think that would be nice.  So, I did the Region 4 one on STN instead.

It was in the upper 50's-low-60's, drizzle/mist on and off the entire time I rode- and it was GLORIOUS!

Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation.

That's fine.  Muriel and I really want to repurpose that depot, but it's 40 miles from anywhere these days.  And the 'railroad'* still 'owns' it.

*Been nearly 20 years since a train ran up here, but there's still a 'railroad authority' eating $$$$ and blocking the reuse of the right of way.

Well, it turned out it is an abandoned railway station, although some one is doing maintence on it. Ardingly railway station, built for the local school, Ardingly College. Now disused.

Go and find a road with a silly or strange name.

Slugwash Lane
An old droving road and a narrow modern country lane that links Wivelsfield Green to the A272 near Bedales Corner. The first element of the name is derived from 'slough' which gives an idea of the condition the lane would be in during the wet months of the year.

Doesn't every road in the UK have a funny name?

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
