Give me time to put together a more coherent ride report than I posted on The Other Site. Meanwhile... twisties? You want twisties?

In this picture I think I counted 17 of the 48 hairpins coming up Passo dello Stelvio / Stilfersjoch (same place, different languages) on the Austrian side.

Alexander Thiessen has 94 passes(!) on YouTube. This is the Stelvio video. He cames up from the Italian side and descended on the Austrian side. I did the reverse, but the video still gets it done. The bike is 650 VStrom.

Are you part of the solution or part of the precipitate?

Here is my utilitarian 2007 Adventure.    It has taken more than it's fair share of dirt naps.

What a great pic! Looks like you're loaded for the long haul on that trip.

Eric

Yep, it was several weeks, camping the whole way; Atlanta to San Francisco/Marin to meet up with my brother, then up to Sierraville near Tahoe.   We shuttled back and forth across the mountains to Reno for four days on forest roads for the annual Air Races.   Then headed down to Lake Tahoe, over to Bodie (silver mine ghost town) and Mono Lake, then down to Mammoth, up through Yosemite, and back to Marin.  Left my brother’s house and back to Georgia.

We stayed on dirt or gravel roads whenever possible the entire time in California and Nevada so we were able to see some great vistas and visited a lot of places that most people never go.   A few times, like the deep sand around Mono Lake I was wishing for some knobblier tires, but overall the bike did great out in the woods and crossing the country.

One more BMW (and KTM) pic from that trip since this is a BMW thread.   Boondocking along the Carson River.
