Region 6 Winter Meet
« on: November 06, 2013, 06:23:05 PM »
Here’s the information regarding the Region 6 Winter Meet.

When: January 10th – 12th,  2014

Where: Cacapon Resort State Park http://www.cacaponresort.com/

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Make your reservations buy calling 1-800-CALL-WVA (225-5982) or 304-258-1022.

When you call to book your room be sure to tell them you are booking one of the rooms held under the block "Beth Clark 2014".  Rates are $67.00 for a Mountain View rooms overlooking the front parking lot.  The rooms are either queen/twin or two doubles.

The lodge will only hold a block of rooms for TEN days.  So book early book often to guarantee yourself a spot.  The lodge has a 48 hour cancellation policy so if it looks like the mother of all snowstorms is coming you can always bail-out when the time comes.

For those of you that have not been to Cacapon before, they have a restaurant on-site that isn’t half bad.  There is also a large “lodge like” room to just hang out, watch TV, tell lies, etc.

Remember, book early, book often.

Hope to see all of you there.

Yes and no.
Yes / yes.

Riding is certainly not mandatory; last year I came down to hang more than ride and since it's only a couple hours for me, it was well worth it.

How tolerable are you to cold? I have a fully faired bike and heated everything, and I'm glad for it on the winter meet. No shame in caging in down just to bs in the lounge.

I ride 33 but need a 20 min warm up after an hour. If I could get some GOOD gloves I could ride a lot longer.

If you don't ride down you can't sit at the President's table during dinner.   :D

That said people have driven down and had a good time in the past.

We've had years it was cold and dry and many showed:

We've had years when it was 60 degrees and we rode 400 miles on Saturday.

It's really a crap shoot as far as weather goes.

If you do ride the only thing you can really be sure of is that your bike will be filthy when you get home.

Muzzy, shoot me an address. I'll send you a nice pair of gloves. I  have some Road Gear winter gloves that kinda rock, but I don't use 'em as I have heated ones.

What size are you?  I have quite a few pairs of gloves that might work.  I have a pair of gerbings pants I need gone if they fit you, they'd be real cheap right now since they're in a trailer about to be moved.  I also have an aerostich neck thing I've never worn and prolly some other misc gear you could get for free or pennies on the dollar as some of it isn't mine to give away.  You'd pretty much need to come to New Market tomorrow tho.  :)

Ooops.  Harder than you think to reply to threads w/ no internet connection.  Sorry.  Pants are just about tiny anyway so they're out.  Still have gloves and neck thing and such but the drive is now a little farther.  We moved to Martinsburg WV last week.  PM me with your location and I'll see if we can't meet up at a park n ride or something on 70 one day.

OK folks.  Only three rooms have been booked to date.  Be sure to get that reservation made soon.  Remember you can always cancel if the weather goes south when the time comes.

I'm hoping to come—just need to find out whether Jamie wants to drive over w/the kids (though I'll ride)...I'll force the conversation tonight! :)

Just made a reservation (but forgot to ask how many rooms they have left?). I'll prolly be coming alone—and of course am working on the principle that if I tell Jamie I've already made a reservation she'll let me come.

Will be watching the weather, fingers crossed!

I don't have a motorcycle available to me right now. If the Daytona deal falls through I could ride that, but that won't happen because I'll never ride it again regardless. I could cage it, but that sounds boring. Fuck it, I'm out. Cheers

Well since the forecast for this weekend is for a foot of snow I'd guess it will be a balmy 58 degrees next weekend.

You'd be fine. I wore my Ravens gear to Ford Field in Detroit when they played the Lions. I spent the whole day downtown at several locations, rode the people mover a few times, visited some commercial jobsites we worked on in the hood & was surrounded by several thousand Lions fans during the game & not one person said anything about my attire. Except for one instance, there is a hidden Men's room on the concourse at Ford Field that not many people know of, I know of it because it was shown to my group when we toured the stadium, there was a long line for the Men's room so I snuck around the food kiosk to the hidden pisser, there were a few Lions fans in there & they said "damnit, now the Ravens fans know about the secret bathroom".

Welcome to the United States of America. Wear what you want.

Cheers

Samething goes when I wear my Ravens gear in Cleveland. Nobody says shit, and Cleveland Browns fans hate the Baltimore Ravens. Supposedly!  Cheers

Any interest in a DS option?  I might be able to put together a route of some iffy roads in the area.  I might be able to make it so we end up in a spot where we could explore offroad for a bit (multiple skill levels available).  I might be able to make it so that we could take a break from riding and propel some toxic metallic material.  I might be able to provide bacon wrapped hot dogs for lunch.

Maybe.  :)

You'll probably be the only one.  If we do get any significant snow the unpaved roads will likely remain snow covered.

Well, if we don't get snow and anybody wants to man up, the offer lingers.  I live 34 miles and have 20 acres 28 miles from the meet location.  There is fun to be had but my primary ride right now is an XT 250 so road riding isn't something I'll be able to excel at.  But shooting and playing in the dirt, those I can do.

Hmm...haven't gone through the thread, but wondering who is coming for sure? The forecast is looking warm  but with nonstop rain Friday evening and all day Saturday.  So I'm on the fence. Got a few hours to cancel my reservation (or not)...who else is planning to be there come hell or high water?

 :headscratch:

Since people are finally asking...this meet is unofficially cancelled due to apathy and poor weather.

Prolly a good call. I'd chalk it up to weather.  :) I can afford it, but with everything else going on just don't feel like riding in the (cold) rain.  :( Next year!
