BMW Motorrad USA Issues “Stop Sale” on the R1200GS
« on: July 17, 2017, 06:52:51 PM »
It looks like BMW is stepping up efforts in move from its "service campaign" to a full out recall on certain GS models.

Now, because of my contact with a deer, would that void my recall if my front forks were deemed damaged from that impact?

Have you told them you had contact with a deer?  If not, dont. Your warranty is still good.   :smiley_thumb:

Why wouldn't it? Unless it was fixed with the replacement parts, then it would be considered done already.

If your car had a recall on a steering component it would still be covered even if it had previously been in an accident.

Best advice: don't mention it.

I was only being facetious about the deer strike affect on the recall.  There's no way I'm going to mention it to the dealer.  Though, it's fun telling the story.  It's not often you get to brag about nailing a deer head on at speed and riding away like that.  I'm thinking of not replacing the front backyard engineered/repaired front fender so it can serve as a warning to all other critters that I mean business.

It is a good story to tell. At least clean the deer hair off the tape before you take it in.
I didn't notice the facetious font, I thought you were genuinely concerned.

Yea I've been following the along with the whole issue and now check the stanchions on my 2014.  So far they haven't budged a bit so I'm not really worried.

Heuristic observation suggests they'll stand up to a deer strike.

Yep, I pulled back the rubber gaskets back on my '13 and the stanchions look as good as gold.

Now, I still haven't loosened the triples to give the front wheel a big spin followed by a lock of the front brakes (repeat as needed) to assure alignment.  But, based on look, feel, and tire wear, it seems fine.

I'm never sure that it ain't aliens.  In fact, the longer my beard gets, the higher the likelihood that it IS aliens.

I would think that the GS is Motorad's bread and butter.  Guessing this is a big deal.
