Threadjackon:  Speaking of the Seattle folk - anyone here remember Matricies?  I joined STN1.0 the week he was killled.  Having just gotten into bikes it was increadibly moving.  Not sure why Sunshine reminded me of him though>
Threadjackoff:

BTW - enough foreplay - lets see some mooseses.

And now back to our regularly scheduled mooseses...

I found it quite realistic. Immersive, almost.
If it weren't for the therapeutic properties of the occasional off-camber decreasing radius downhill right-hander I'd almost certainly go completely sane.

Yeah, I remember that.  I was a fairly quiet member at that point just doing research into trips and bikes and such.  If memory serves, I found STN in 99?  Is that possible?

Sunday...Day 1.

After an eternity on the Five our journey mercifully ended with a parking space in front of respected friend and fellow rider, Mr. Sunshine.

Chris had been gracious enough to allow us to store the FJ and trailer at his house.  We rolled up sometime before noon, having spent the night in a local hotel, found the address after much roaming around and began to unload the trailer.

This was going to be the greatest ride.  I'd never done something of this scale before.  During the planning of the trip we had as many as 8 people on the trip...yet one by one they fell away.  One couple moved away...another had a job change...someone else had a kid.  In the end, we were two and I'd be riding with my most beloved Wife.

We suited and rolled the minimal mileage to the border.  Almost as if to taunt us...

Yep, the traffic at the border was deafening but it didn't stop the Kanadian Gestapo from interrogating us.  Satisfied after some 45 seconds of intense questioning we found ourselves punted swiftly to the other side.

We had made it.  We were in Kanada.  We were welcome.  And as strange as it was...we were still on familiar land.  Flashing lights gently reminding us that there was indeed a law.  And we weren't it.

The road lay before us.

And to this day I am never far from the lovely lady housed in the mirror to my left.

It was Dantesdame herself that recommended our first night's stay.  We'd ridden through Hell's Gate to Spences Bridges and found a place called, well, The Inn at Spences Bridges.

Sleep came easy that night.

It was to be the first of only two hotels we'd reserved during the whole trip.  The safety net removed...we were on the eve of the greatest adventure.

Versus the other one that isn't so beloved?   :pokestick:

This trip was, as previously alluded to, going to be roughly 3 weeks on the road.  We didn't have any firm plans for hotels except for Day 1 and later in Wiseman.  The rest of the trip was intentionally going to be free-form.

Correction:  we stayed at MUDDOG's House!  Sorry, it was another trip where we invaded Chris Burgess' home.

Having said that, there just Arne' that many options when there are only two main roads.  :)

Overall, the trip and mileage looked like this:

All distances are in KM.

Seattle:  start
Spences Bridges:  406
Williams Lake:  306
Vanderhoof:  333
Hyder:  604
Dense Lake/Watson Lake:  653
Layover day.
Haines Junction:  692
Paxson:  755
Healy (by way of Denali Highway):  277
Layover Day (Denali Tour)
Wiseman:  609
Prudhoe Bay:  377 x2
Fairbanks:  434
Dawson:  623
Layover Day
Whitehorse:  532
Watson Lake (Pt. 2):  438
Liard (Ft. Nelson):  648/305
Dawson Creek:  456
Prince George:  404
Kamloops:  610
Seattle:  465

Now, the truly observant will note that the stops don't actually match the maps.  That's right.  We had originally planned to do the Ross River / Carmacks loop and unfortunately had to make a very much unplanned detour.

So the end results looked like this:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

All in all, we were covering some 6,000 miles in 21 days.  We had 18 riding days, 3 layover days, and four "flex" days we could build in.  This was going to be great.

Hang on a moment.  The ride was in 2009, he started the ride report in July of 2017, and now it's mid-October and it isn't finished yet?
