He'll need you as time goes on, so think about that. There's that whole recovery period of ups and downs. I think you'll be really good at helping him through that because it will be a long haul for him.

I will, this I promise.

Dang, Eric.  I'm tore up about the T-bone innocent.  Would you please keep us updated as you hear news?

Thanks.

Will do Doug.

Michael update:

I slept really well last night through constant interruptions with Dilantin and Oxycodone every four hours. I had a hard time catching my breath after surgery apparently so they left me intubated and that sucked balls. My wife went looking for help and found the nurse texting and created holy hell. She’s off the floor. Bit of a scene I’m told.

I wanted to thank all of you for your comments and. concerns. I am deeply touched, indeed I started crying as you wrote about going about your days worrying about me. Your support and kindness is overwhelming. I feel cherished in a way that I never previously had. My wife tells me she burst into tears at Kentuckids friend request (wife was posting updates on FB viewable by friends only)

PT people are happy with my performance today. I’m exhausted- 15 minutes sitting up unassisted kicked my butt!

I'm happy to report he's over the really rough part of his healing process and on the road to speedy recover. He's shopping for another Burger 200 as i type this.

Mrs Conchscooter said he is still in ICU, doing his exercises, but still can't drink anything. She thinks he might barter her for something to drink.
A good thing is he got a shave. Supposedly the nurse that shaved him is very attractive. Of course it could just be the meds!!!!
Other good thing is still no blood. Yesterday he had 2 units but hasn't needed any since.....Good news for the day.

Have been stir crazy in the intensive care unit and Jackson South in Miami. I am much better but still intubated. Got a shave yesterday! The outside world seems remote after 8 days here

Mrs. V is born and raised in Seattle and attended Seattle University. So we are pitstopping in Seattle for a day or two before we're off to O'ahu. So the inlaws picked us up at Seatac and off we go to visit some of Mrs. V's old stoping grounds.

Some random pics.

I was speaking with the bartender about bourbons and they had an extensive list to choose from. They had select made small batches for the The Met from Buffalo Trace, Woolford Reserve and Rare Eagle. I've never seen a restaurant have "their version" of these fine bourbons.

The bartender was kind enough to let me try a sample of each.

*** History alert! ***

January 27, 1791

Whiskey Tax of 1791

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

After a spirited debate, the House passed, by a 35 to 21 majority, the Excise Whiskey Tax—legislation that proved wildly unpopular with farmers and eventually precipitated the “Whisky Rebellion.” The measure levied a federal tax on domestic and imported alcohol, earmarked to offset a portion of the federal government’s recent assumption of state debts. Southern and western farmers, whose grain crop was a chief ingredient in whiskey, loudly protested the tax. In 1794, farmers in western Pennsylvania attacked federal officials seeking to collect tax on the grain they had distilled into whiskey. The administration of President George Washington dispatched a force of nearly 13,000 militia to put down a feared revolt. Resistance, however, dissipated when the troops arrived. This happened in parts of Virginia as well..

So all the farmers (rednecks) pulled up their stakes and set up distilleries in TN and KY. It all started with our first president George Washington. Hmmmm those boys are getting paid?!!!! Send some troops and tax them. These boys said, oh hell no! lol

After the moonshiners set up shop they packed their whisky into oak barrels to store it and floated it down the mighty Mississippi River to New Orleans. A great way to transport it undetected. Most folks don't know this but whisky was clear back then. By the time it floated down the river the oak barrel had tinted the whisky color to caramel that we know today.

Bourbon whiskey /bɜːrbən/ is a type of American whiskey, a barrel-aged distilled spirit made primarily from corn. The name ultimately derives from the French Bourbon dynasty, although the precise inspiration for the whiskey's name is unsettled; contenders include Bourbon County in Kentucky and Bourbon Street in New Orleans, both of which are named for the dynasty. Bourbon has been distilled since the 18th century. The use of the term "bourbon" for the whiskey has been traced to the 1820s, and the term began to be used consistently in Kentucky in the 1870s. While bourbon may be made anywhere in the United States, it is strongly associated with the American South, and with Kentucky in particular. As of 2014, the distillers' wholesale market revenue for bourbon sold within the U.S. is about $2.7 billion, and bourbon makes up about two-thirds of the $1.6 billion of U.S. exports of distilled spirits.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The House of Bourbon reaches as far back as the mid 13th century and boasts descendants as famed as Louis XIV (aka The Sun King) and Louis XVI (aka The King Who Got Freakin’ Beheaded). However, it’s important to note how unlikely it is that bourbon whiskey was named directly after French royalty. It’s more likely the booze was named for Bourbon County, Kentucky, where much of the sweet elixir was (and still is) distilled in the 19th century.

More than you ever wanted to know about bourbon.

Okay, here's what I've been able to research for scooter rentals in O'ahu.

http://scooterrentalsoahu.com/reservations/ Their website is sketch as to what you can rent?

https://hawaiiscootcoupe.com/ Looks like a slingshot type scoot.

https://hawaiimoped.com/  @Huladog recommended. Hooligan or a Burger 400

When I arrive I'll call all three and go from there and I welcome any opinions if you have any. I know this is a reach on this forum but your never know if one of you have traveled this path?  :bigok:

Wow, that looks like a scooter rally every day at the hotel.    Quite a diverse assortment.   Great pictures of the scoots and the vacation spot.

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law's accident, but glad you had the right size cork on board.

Have fun in HI.

I don't know what it's like now but when I lived there, scooters were like mosquitos.  When I would take my nighthawk downtown, it was difficult to find a place to park far enough away from a scooter to avoid association.   ;D

Just a quick update on Conchshooter/Michael, he's out of rehab PT now and just got home to his bride and his pup Rusty. His spirit to overcome this has been amazing and I continue to be amazed at what folks can do when they put their mind to it. He has been through bloody hell and still has a long road in front of him. When his life settles down I'll fly or maybe auto-train down this winter and take him and his wife out for a ribeye.

I sent him a care package with some artwork on it as his birthday is Halloween as well.

He's truck'n right along these days.

A few things to lift his spirits.

And Rusty has waited 2 months to see his best friend on his bed.

You're a good friend, Eric.  How's Rusty doing today?

I have been following his recovery on ADV., that man took a big hit.
I have taken a few good shots, none that bad, a few days in the hospital, six months back to normal was the biggest.
It took over a year before I felt comfortable riding my motorcycle again.

What a coinydink...I've been work in NJ for the latest couple and the field office for the company I'm consulting to just happens to be right next door to a MC dealer,  including Husky,

Please say that key to something that looks like these??

I was out meandering today and stopped at one overlook for a quick pic or three. What a treat to have upper 50s in February, seize the day!

Stopped by the dealership for some parts.

I was walking to the local store for a soda yesterday and saw this little beauty in the parking area.  Yamaha FZ-S, 150cc and retails for $2600US here in Mexico.  I want.

Trying to capitalize on the nice weather I traveled out to Colonial Beach for a cup of coffee, roughly 60 miles each way.

Temperature got as high as 72*F/22*C which is amazing for this time of year. Normally in the spring and summer these roads offer canopy tree shade as I carve my way around Fort A.P. Hill.

When I get there I just soak in the scenery and revel in the moment as life is good today.

My friend Michael that I posted about above is on the road to recovery and still a couple months out from riding. In the mean time I've been keeping my radar open for a replacement of his beloved Burger 200 and I found one in Houston, TX with only 375 miles on her for a steal of a price. That's the good news, the bad news is he's in no condition to travel for a fly and ride let alone a trailer drive to and from The Keys to Houston.

So I'm stewing on the the idea of helping him out with the idea that I have cabin fever here in VA as it is still a tad sketchy weather here. Hmmm.... so I called him up and many texts later we decided I'll fly out one way to Houston, ride it to the Keys, toss him the keys, catch a plane back to the Old Dominion! What could go wrong?

This will not be a stop and smell the roses tour but a delivery tour with some points of interest pictures. Talk about deja vu, a third of the route is almost the same route I took when I purchased my 946. Here's roughly the route I have planned as best I can as I have 24 hours to do my job, prep and pack, buy tickets, etc., etc. I'll stop in Louisiana to visit some friends and the work my way down the left coast of FL and eventually to Key West. I hope Mother Nature cuts me some slack on this trip as she has pounded me on the last couple. I'll post my adventure (not much of one) here with many pics and a glympse of my location should you have any interest in where I'm at on this journey.
