Quote
When their mounted patrol came under intense enemy fire, Corporal Wooldridge and his squad dismounted and maneuvered on the suspected enemy location. Spotting a group of fifteen enemy fighters preparing an ambush, Corporal Wooldridge led one of his fire teams across open ground to flank the enemy, killing or wounding at least eight and forcing the rest to scatter. As he held security alone to cover his fire team's withdrawal, he heard voices from behind an adjacent wall. Boldly rushing around the corner, he came face-to-face with two enemy fighters at close range, killing both of them with his M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon. As he crouched back behind the wall to reload, he saw the barrel of an enemy machine gun appear from around the wall. Without hesitation, he dropped his empty weapon and seized the machine gun barrel.

He overwhelmed the enemy fighter in hand-to-hand combat, killing him with several blows to the head with the enemy's own machine gun. His audacious and fearless actions thwarted the enemy attack on his platoon. By his bold and decisive leadership, undaunted courage under fire, and total dedication to duty, Corporal Wooldridge reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.

Note to self. Do not screw with Cpl. Wooldridge.  Under any circumstance. Ever.
With enough thrust, a pig flies just fine.

Cpl. Wooldridge might get a letter of appreciation.  That is the Marine Corps way, he was just doing his job. :beerchug:

Life is made up of moments, small pieces of glittering mica in a long stretch of gray cement. We have to teach ourselves how to make room for them, to love them, and to live, really live. - Anna Quindlen

Taking absolutley nothing away for the Corp (standing tall in admiration), these kind of things happen far more often than you might realize . . . . outstanding behaviro being recognized at any level  is something of a crap shoot  . . . just another reason to treat our men and women in uniform with respect and care.
We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

yeah...

Had a SGT in my platoon take 5 rounds(one shattering his knee cap) and he still managed to drag his wounded buddy to the truck and drive off while returning fire...

damn kid was the quietest most unassuming man I have ever met...and just to spite them he is still alive and kickin..

for every story of heroism published there are many hundreds probably unmentioned......
