Mirror web sites???
« on: February 11, 2017, 04:17:37 AM »
I'm on another little forum, for owners of TU250s. It's not big and certainly not clever but it's friendly enough.

One member has found the site has an exact mirror image-which seems to have no relation to the original site. Every time someone posts on the real site, the mirror site updates itself.

Anybody know anything about this sort of thing? Some sort of scam? Apart from stealing passwords, I can't see what the mirror site has been set up for.

Boy, there's this place called sport-touring.net that seems to have a lot of the same stuff as here.

Doesn't appear to be a true mirror, though.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation.

I'm confused., What would be the point? Is the mirror set up for backup, or as a net to capture personal details and/or financial info? Doesn't seem like there is a great reason for a mirror of such a limited demographic site (sorry Papa) unless it's potentially shady.
I could be paranoid though. Just don't really see a valid reason and that would make me nervous to use their services...

My bet is it's another domain hosted on the same server and it's just misconfigured so that it redirects from one to the other.  ;D

But two webcam "issues"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbins_v._Lower_Merion_School_District

The "FBI moneypak scam/extortion virus" also utilized the webcam - snapping a pic and if flesh tones were detected the "face" was placed on the screen - we have your picture and know you've been bad so pay us now!

At a minimum, keep'm covered when not in use. If never used, covered & disabled (which also disables the mic)

It's only paranoia if they're not out to get you.  And this the "they" is so freakin broad now, why risk it?

A news article about mic recording
https://arstechnica.com/security/2017/02/hackers-who-took-control-of-pc-microphones-siphon-600-gb-from-70-targets/

While at home, we would likely have little to be concerned with regarding mic recording, at work, there could be.
