This is what Dan and I have to deal with every morning. He sees us putting on our stuff to leave for work and immediately runs down the stairs to sit by the door. Needless to say, I have been late to work a few times...

Please meet Oscar Clark, German Shorthaired Pointer Extraordinaire! He will be 15 in November. Obviously, this collage represents him at various ages, or stages of white-face, but each picture definitely captures his essence! He was a puppy for the first seven years of his life...just BOUNDLESS energy...and has really only slowed down significantly in the last three years or so. He used to like to play catch until WE wore out. Now he's half-blind and mostly deaf, but damned if that docked tail doesn't still wiggle a mile a minute when I'm anywhere near his cookie jar! Which, by the way, now contains soft treats as he has had 15 of 42 teeth removed in the last five months...and remains unphased. He's a damn fine dog, if I do say so myself. He's Daddy's boy, but Momma's snuggle bear.

Happy birthday Oscar!!!

In November 2015, our Sheriff, "America's Toughest", Joe Arpaio, busted a puppy-mill-gone-bad.

http://www.abc15.com/news/region-west-valley/buckeye/mcso-serves-search-warrant-at-puppy-mill-in-west-valley

In January of 2016 we got a notice from APARN that we had been selected to receive a great dog.  His name is Sneed.  January 16th, we brought him home, and proceeded to give him love and comfort like he'd never known.

Just a few days later we had him at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden's "Dog Days" event.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

He got to travel by plane with us to Flagstaff, and I taught him to fly.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

He loved traveling with us to our home in Mexico.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

His reputation was that he was "A chill dog".  Dogs would walk by, barking, and Sneed would just stand and stare, waiting for the noisy dog to stop.  The years in the kennel made him 100.0% dog-tolerant, and somewhat unimpressed by the attempts of others to gain attention.  Quite the bully, when he wanted on your lap, it was non-negotiable!

But as was his lot, bad breeding practices took control.  It became evident on November 18th that he was suffering from Pug Dog Encephalitis.  The seizures started but just wouldn't stop.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granulomatous_meningoencephalitis

Our vet clinic worked through the night, even trying surgical sedation to try and quiet the nervous system.  But after hours of chemicals and trials to shut down the seizures, we had to make a hard decision.  After only ten months in our life, Sneed is now another statistic to bad breeding practices.

Rest in peace, little buddy.

The past few years, we've bought Oscar a giant stuffed animal from the gift shop at the local Cracker Barrel for Christmas. This year, they didn't have any giant stuffies prior to the holiday...but this past Sunday night they did!!! Say hello to Leon the Longhorn. He's almost as big as Oscar!!!

Dane or dane mix? You had a dozen of them? They look bigger than labs, and coloring suggest danes. If you had a dozen dane puppies, I'm coming to visit!

She's pure-bred Dane; the puppies weren't ours -- we were just lucky enough to get one!

I have a weak spot for big square heads like labs and Danes, just love 'em.

Ok, so I wasn't the only one thinking that.
She's got a worm in 'er belly? That's disgusting! That's interesting, but very disgusting.
