Went fishin'...
« on: December 09, 2013, 12:26:22 PM »
And came home with this.  The Mrs and I did some crabbing and lingcod fishing yesterday out of Bodega Bay just north of SF.  We had a pod of dolphins follow us out of the bay to the crabbing grounds. As you can see, they brought us some good luck.  We also had a couple of juvenile humpback whales about 500 yards to seaward on our way north, which was pretty cool. They usually don’t get in that close to shore.

Two limits of Dungeness crab. 6 per person.  Thankfully, we pulled our limits in just 5 pots. Even with an electric winch, hauling the pots from 150ft down was a lot of work. I can still smell squid bait on my hands this morning.

The Mrs with her 2 lingcod. Yes…she caught the largest one. It been that way since we met. She catches the largest steelhead, halibut, you name it. Hey what do I care? It ends up in the same freezer.

One more cabezon in the bucket. That’s Jeff, our deckhand.

Another “rough” day off the California coast. We ended up with 12 crab, 4 lingcod, 2 cabezon, 2 copper rockfish, and 3 smallmouth black rockfish. We probably caught and released 8 or 9 canary rockfish, which we had to toss back since they’re protected by the CA Department of Fishy Cops.

I'd bet any of those babies would go great with fries and a beer!

Fished for Salmon there. Headed out to the Farallon Islands and had a nice size great white swim under the boat a few times. Those things look like mini submarines when they cruise by.   Awesome area to spend a day or two.  :bigok:

I miss the days of grabbin' lobsters out of their holes with me bare hands. Nice haul. Your deck hand and that ugly fish look like they could be related.

I'd say Mr.& Mrs. Stew had a pretty good day.

Make sure you get down to the "Pictures of food! It's what we do." thread when the time comes.

Thanks for sharing your day...

Apparently crabbing on the west coast isn't the same as crabbing on the Texas gulf coast. Chicken gizzard, string, beer, fill up the cooler, repeat.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

I could get used to that.  ;D

Crab cakes and fish tacos are already on the menu.
