Leaving for ESTO in the morning.

May the wind at your back not be your own.

PS  The sandwich shop in Eldred (corner of NY 55 & CR-33/47 - furthest point south on your route) is supposed to have wickedly good authentic wood-fired brick-oven pizza.  We stopped there in 2013 and found out they don't start serving until about 4 PM because it takes all day for the oven to come up to temperature.  Just like southern Italy; you can't get pizza for lunch!  I've been meaning to try it, but haven't stopped in since because it's always too early when I pass by.

"Corner Piazza" apparently now offers breakfast pizza...jus' sayin'...

I have attached a GPX file of my reservoir route (327 miles) that I will be riding on Saturday.

I just left a message to try and reserve a room. Waiting for a call back.

EDIT: And I now have a room! Chris and I will be riding New England prior to stopping at ESTO on our way home:
Tues (Dacks)
Wed (Dacks, LAMB gaps)
Thu (northern VT, Mt Washington, Kank, and back into VT)
Fri (VT100, southern Dacks)

Care for some company on your Saturday route?

Nothin' better than cold pizza and beer for breakfast; unless you're riding of course.

I never mind having a small group head out. I probably ride a little slower than your normal hair-on-fire pace though.

It looks my rear tire is dying a quick death. Sigh... This one (Avon Trail Rider) might be dead in 4K miles. The others (Conti Trail Attack 2) have made it to (almost) 6K. Maybe the extra weight of the luggage is killing it or it simply doesn't last as long. Internet reviews indicated it was not a short lived tire. I doubt it's going to make it to Hancock. Live and learn I guess.

I have a half used spare tire (conveniently stashed at my son's house in NY and now bungied to the bike) and a set of tire irons/etc with me. I may end up doing a parking lot tire change in Stowe tomorrow night or Barre the next. There are a surprising lack of motorcycle dealers in New England.

I even took the passenger pegs off so Rincewind isn't tempted to try to ride bitch and violate my balls to wheels ratio policy.

Chris and I are in Barre Vermont. Long day to get to Hancock tomorrow. 450 miles means an early start and a late arrival (7pm). I got my half used tire mounted a few miles from the hotel tonight for only $32.

I just looked into the garage, and there's a motorcycle parked out there, so I guess I'm ready for tomorrow.

Ok it's 7:30, I'm about to go to work. I have a packing list in my head and the bike is not loaded. Work till 2:30 filling teen heads with geographical facts, then home, pack and leave. ETA is between 9 and 10 pm, depending on how many state troopers I see. Or how many see me.

Home S&S in 4.5 hrs, just like the GPS predicted.
I kind of had to fudge the speed up considerably, and thankfully, no speed traps...

Home safe.  Great weekend.  Good seeing everyone.

Today wasn't the best day of riding that I've ever had.  Pics and story to follow.  After pizza.

Just learned the accident I passed yesterday was fatal.

http://m.wfmz.com/berks-regional-news/motorcycle-involved-in-a-crash-on-route-61-near-cabelas/41620274

I was going in the opposite direction. Must have been shortly after it happened. Police were on the scene. So I didn't stop. EMS on the way a few miles down the road. Looked like somebody might have cut him off approaching the exit ramp.  No, he wasn't wearing a helmet.

Was not the best day of riding I ever had.

I had a great time - thanks for organizing, Oilhead.  Nice to see folks and get some riding in.  Garry - thanks for the route & lead Saturday.  Smoker - always a pleasure to ride w/you.  The rain cleared off after about 30 miles during my ride home - nice.   :D

Roundout Reservoir - probably should have stopped for a few other reservoir shots, but we were moving at a good pace.

9T packed up on the way home.  A couple people asked me the weight - I guessed around 500lbs fuelled up - official spec is 489 lbs.

That's a pretty fine example of everything I'd love in a modern naked when I can afford to buy something newer and more modern again.

I ride with a good guy.  Here he is doing his Sunday morning good deed for the day.  Little did I know how prophetic this act would be?

About an hour later, my front tire found the edge of this pothole, located on PA 339 between Union Twp and Ringtown.

This was the result

Amazingly enough, it held air, or rather lost it slowly at a rate of about 1 psi every 3 miles depending how far I leaned it over on right-handers.  So I plotted a route home via Sheetz stations.  That was easier than unpacking my compressor every 25 or 30 miles.   I was about 75 miles from home.  Yea, I should know better, I think that pothole has been there since early Spring.  It’s just over a slight rise and you can’t see it until you’re in it.

We were taking it easy – maybe 40-45 mph – because that stretch is all beat up.  The impact was hard enough to knock both bags off.  Scott said they pooped up above my head.   I didn’t notice.

You can see the scratches on the bags.

Looks like I'll be riding the wee for awhile

Wow!  That sucks Frank. Glad to see you are ok. That could have ended much worse.
