I've got invites out to about 20 people. I hope it's firm-enough.

It's firm.  I'll talk them out of having to guarantee the room.

I just attempted booking a room using the instructions above (also updated first post) and received an error message.  I'll check with the lodge to see if my reservation went through and inform them of the error.

NearlySeventy and I both had the same experience.  Called them and they said they would call back.  That was 4 hours ago.  No way to run a railroad  :)

When trying to make the reservation it looked like cancellation would be OK for 72 hours out, 1 day penalty if cancelled later.  Did you see something different?

That's the deal, 72 hrs vs 24. That's not too bad.

So I'm clear...

Group Rate means <72 hours notice of cancellation, billed one night

Regular Rate means <24 hours notice, billed one night

...?

I didn't catch that we're being billed one night at time of booking.  I thought it was a reserve only.

To be very clear, Canaan Valley is pretty antiquated in how they do these things, and it's run by the state... but it's a great location and a beautiful area and resort. I'm happy putting up with the slightly higher price (let's be honest, some of the $50/night places have been a little terrifying) and the quirks.

I'm all in on this trip! I can't explain how much I need a proper and actual road trip for a few days.

I'll be there. It's been a long time since I've ridden with you guys. Peter is coming down from Canada in spite of the exchange rate. That really makes it a good time to travel up there.

BTW I am now the other side of 70. Do I need to change my license plate?

I'll call the resort later today.

I usually tag some extra days onto these trips.  If W-Th look to be hellish weather, I'll switch the reservation to Sun-M.   :)

I live an hour or so (and a nice ride) away. I can stay or I can go. If staying it'll probably be somewhere other than the resort. We'll see.

Way I see it, the tag is accurate; you're still nearly 70.   :withstupid:

That was my intention. Just thought I'd bring it up here since the phrase "nearly 70" originated with this group in Clearfield some years ago. A stray comment made in a bar about older riders prompted Gasgauge to say "Careful cause Dave is nearly 70." I promptly changed my handle and the plate a few years later.

Fair enough.  But, just know we're going to push for you to change it to NRLY 80 when the time is right.   :D

Well, let's treat 70 (and its multiples) like an epoch. 0, 70, 140, etc...

In that vein, everything from 36-105 is "nearly seventy", so after Dave turns 106, then we can push for "Nearly 140".

How is that a problem?

I have these dreams. One of these days I want to do a West Coast fly and ride, or maybe trailer my bike to Colorado Springs & ride from there; talk my wife into renting a condo in Santa Barbara for a month.  Wine tasting every other day between rides.  Not outside the realm of possibility, but it won't happen this year.  Hope to see you then.

Well, this just isn't meant for me to attend. On April 2nd, my brother is getting married in Richmond, and I'll be there. Hanging around for a month, doesn't do a thing for me. It's a very rare thing that I ever go east of the Rockies. Maybe another time.

We both took Thursday off to ride down, take the long way. Anywhere within a half-day's ride with curvy roads will suffice. I think maybe I'll set the GPS for somewhere mid-southern WV and just go there on Thursday and stop whenever/where ever, then make our way to Canaan Friday lunchish.

You could head to Lewisburg via BRP, 42, 311, etc. Then it's a nice wander north up 219 plus whatever ever suits you to get to CVR.

That'll likely end up being the plan, or very close to it. I like Lewisburg.
