Seriously, Dropbox will do what you wish . . . . .for free.

Yup. And without the hassle of having to set up and maintain your own site.

It may be easier to think of a "file" sharing tool, rather than searching for a "photo" tool.

just sayin ;-]
We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

So can I just copy and paste a link to my photobucket account into a dropbox account and have everything there with minimal effort? And will all the links work on various bbs's that I've linked to?

I'm beginning to feel like I did when I bought a betamax player.  :-\

Er, no, I don't believe so.

Dropbox is a folder in teh cloud that allows you place any file you wish in there, and give individuals access to the files (full res, in the case of pics).

links and the like, to my knowledge, will no follow the files . . . . . .

Though I'll admit I have not tried, I would be greatly surprised if they did.

How big are the picture files and how many are there?  Dropbox only gives you 2GB free to start.

Does the drop box service have an option for file recipients to download a file without needing to sign up for an account and install the client software onto their machine?

Bailing out of PB, so it looks like free hosting sites could be the best option, either Flick or Photobox. Any comments?

I use Flickr. The UI is clunky but it works.
